Hi Folks, need some advise on problem with our inverter in our 2011 Newmar Baystar 3302.
The inverter is the Magnum MM612. This inverter only operates the 2 T.V's and the entertainment unit. Problem started after we tried hooking up our Apple TV box with HDMI cable to the main TV. All 4 HDMI inputs didn't respond to anything being connected. After trouble shooting on the net, was told to try another HDMI cable, did that, still nothing. Also told to completely disconnect TV's and entertainment unit from the wall socket, leave 5 minutes and reconnect. Still not recognizing HDMI after reconnecting. And then we noticed:

Fault light on inverter flashing, 3 times every 4 seconds. Looked up and says:

"Internal temp of inverter has risen above acceptable limits; caused by loads too great for the inverter to operate continuously, or by lack of ventilation to the inverter. When unit has cooled is will automatically reset and resume operation."

There wasn't any overload that we are aware of but did have the Apple TV Box plugged into the same outlet as the main TV and air circulation around the inverter is good (our weather is cooler too). No other power hooked up.

Called Tech from Magnum and they suggested disconnecting the positive cable at the inverter and leaving it for 5 minutes then reconnecting. Did this, as soon as we reconnected the positive cable again, same issue.

Started generator and tried to turn TV and entertainment units on, no go, seems these outlets don't have power to them. Other outlets do thought with the generator running.

Any ideas

Check the GFI on the inverter.

Hi Alx,
Like cavie posted your inverter has its' own circuit breaker. Find it an reset it.

I think what Cavi is referring to is the circuit breaker button on the side of the inverter. Sometimes this will trip and needs to be reset.

Isn’t there a control box that decides which source sends power to the outlet? If 110 available it uses 110. If no 110 it uses the inverter assuming inverter turned on. At least that’s how it works on my 2016 BSS. If the gen is on and tv doesn’t work, problem may not be inverter.

Thanks for the info Folks, we will check for the circuit breaker, assumed that disconnecting and reconnecting would do the trick in that case, but guess not. Breaker is good for the wall sockets that TV and entertainment are plugged into and all other sockets are working. Will let you know how it goes.

According to the owner's manual for the inverter there are some fault conditions that may require the inverter to be reset. I have attached the instructions for doing that.

FWIW, I think the problem may have been caused by the Apple TV not being happy about being powered by a Modified Sine Wave (MSW) inverter.
