While running around with Bob (rebelsbeach) today at North Trail RV where he was in the process of getting things straightened out on his coach, we had a chance to talk with Scott and other techs who indicated that for all electric coaches, those of us who have the modified sine wave Magnum invertor may wish to have their invertor switched to a pure sine wave invertor.
He indicates much what we have seen addressed here before. There is a problem with the Frigidare refrigerator and microwave not performing correctly if the convertor has not been substituted. All present units being built have the pure sine wave invertor, and after testing by a service center, Newmar will authorize a new unit being placed into the coach. AGAIN, this is for ALL ELECTRIC coaches only. The wiring harnesses are the same and easily substituted. For those who may never use any power other than wired power from a land line or generator, it may not be an issue.

Well that's great great. When did they figure the micro did not work right on an a MSW inverter? It never has!
No micro wave works well and all degrade if used on a MSW inverter.
I'm feed up with this mis-info from supposedly the factory, and with mis-informed members that have no idea what a Newmar is about.

We have an all electric coach with a Frigidaire and both the inverter and the frig. seem to work fine. Knock on wood. What should we be looking for? I assume the frig. electronics just does funny things as opposed to killing the frig.?

So is that a Magnum true sine wave? I wasn't aware that Magnum made TSW.

I hate modified sine wave inverters. They had their place years back when RVs weren't as sophisticated as they now are but they really have no place in today's RVs. Especially since you can get true sine wave inverters for virtually the same price now. I just don't understand why it's taking so long for manufacturers to wake up to this.
Tiffin is in the same league. With this year's new 42QRP floor plan they offered a residential fridge, an Amana side by side with water and ice dispenser in the door. But they still powered it through a Xantrex RV3012 modified sine wave inverter. Then they were surprised when the refrigerator had failures immediately after delivery. What happened is that the electronics control board (electronics don't like mod sine wave) in the door that controlled the water/ice dispenser would smoke and burn out, sometimes with fireworks. I planned on replacing my inverter with a true sine wave RS3000 as soon as I got mine home. Unfortunately, it's a 2.5 hour drive and by the time I got 1 hour down the road from the dealer the door was getting hot and the light flickering and we didn't even use the dispenser. So I fired up the genset for the rest of the way home and it cooled off. Unfortunately, the solenoid got so hot it melted the plastic arm that connects it to the ice dispenser door so I had my dealer replace the dispenser under warranty. The first thing I did to the coach was install my RS3000 and the problems went away. I found this out on the last coach when I replaced the Freedom 458 with an RS2000 and the microwave ran so much better.
If you have a residential fridge in an all electric coach it is critical that you have clean power to it. Therefore a true sine wave inverter is a must. Even if you don't have that kind of fridge, you'll still benefit by having a true sine wave inverter. Your microwave will last longer and any digital clocks will be accurate again. For more info on the difference between the two sine waves as well as a tutorial on how I upgraded my system check out This Link for more information.

A well put together link. I'm sold. I will move to a TSW inverter as soon as feasible. Thanks Mark.

The techs who were explaining this to us did not specify what brand replacement they were authorized to use on behalf of Newmar.
Paul, the substitution was for any all electic coach, including MA. Who knows, perhaps they will also start replacing the invertors on the LP coaches also in due time.
Those of you going to the Super Rally in Tampa next week may get to talk directly to the Newmar reps and get the final word.
