Question Is my Coach prewired for solar

I have recently purchased a 2005 DSDP Model 4009 I was going to install 3 solar panels on the roof when I noticed a small 4 inch square metal plate sealed into the roof about midway between front and rear of coach how can I find out if my coach was prewired at factory I could remove the plate but do not wish to disturb the seal if it is not prewired is there a way to find out Thanks for any info

Unlikely pre-wired. And even if yes probably not large enough wire.

If you have a satellite dish the extra plate would be for solar prewire. If not it is probably for satellite. However as vsheetz said the wire won't be big enough for 3 panels (I believe they prewire with 10AWG, you should be using 4 or 6AWG assuming you're using 3 100W panels), but you may be able to use the wire to pull new wire in. Also you'll need to know where to look for the other end of the prewire, Newmar support (1-800-731-8300) may be able to tell you.

If you call Newmar with the coach id # they can look up the build sheet to see if the coach is pre wired for solar. My coach is pre wired and has the controla built in for it. Hope this helps

set the wire for the size system you are setuping up or risk a fire

now day solar system can put out some high amps and i have set fire to wiring befor when i first got in to solar many year ago

tip to help you pick its more about amps out put and amp hrs then watt
dont be sold on watts thinking that what you are looking for

watts is for a houes system
amps is for battery system

my Rv is 100% solar

Hi Medic318,
The brochure for your coach indicates solar panel wiring was not a standard or an optional feature.

Thanks for all the replies to my inquiry I did find the wire marked solar prewire coming into the fuse box behind the 50 amp Cable drum it is only 10 AWG so I opted to run 6AWG from the roof to the charge controller I will be running 3 140 watt panels so thought this was more prudent I did not remove the cover to confirm but found the premarked wires so assume the coach was prewired again thanks for the replies

Put solar on our 04 Essex and there was a plate about 4 inches square in the middle of the coach were I got two 10 gauge wires to connect for solar. If you have a cover in the middle of coach roof I bet you are pre-wired for solar. Wires are colored code for positive and negative. Tom

Getting solar in the morning. Have Monaco DST 2006. Have panel in battery compartment for solar. Need information on this. Sticker on roof with an arrow for solar but no hole. Fearing that installer will bypass existing system designed to work with coach.

what marking or info is on the panel? As with pre-wiring any existing panel is probably not up to the job.

Here is a write up on my installation that may help.
