Replaced our rear AC 3weeks ago. Extended warranty covered it. Called local( Rockport, Tx.) mobile RV fix-it guys. Did a good job.

The unit is a Dometic, 100.00 deductible on extended warranty. That EW has really paid off!!

Not sure of the exact price, but with Heat Pump, upgrade kit (to work with the old thermostat),and labor, you will probably be getting close to $2,000.

What is the unit doing that makes the shop think it is bad?

Although I have Coleman units on the roof, the rear one started to smoke filling the inside of the coach with a sickening smell. We were in Red Bay Al touring the Tiffin motorhome manufacturing plant and I asked a technician what it could be. He wrote down a part number and said "head over to our parts department and they will fix you up. $17 for a start capacitor and easy install and we were back in the cool again.

Here's one of the posts found before I replaced mine. Lots of good info there.

My new 15K Heat Pump cost about $1000 shipped and included the adapter board to work with my 5 button T'stat. I bought it from the same people who are selling these on eBay. Call them, they may have a scratch and dent model available not in the eBay listing.

DS and I replaced it using a couple of pulleys and a winch in our RV tent to lift it to the top. You do need the extra gasket shaman52 talks about in step #4, I made one out of a couple of layers of some thick air conditioner gasket material from Home Depot.
