Is This a Good Discount
I recently got a quote over the internet for a 2015 Bay Star, equiped just the way we want it. The quote came in at just a fraction over 20% off MSRP. When the price goes North of 100K, I get REALLY nervous. My question is simple. Realistically, and by that I mean a real world answer, is 20% off a brand new 2015 Newmar, a good price, or should I expect to do better than that. I know there is always going to be somebody that walks into the dealership cold and comes out with the deal to beat all deals, but I know that probably won't be me. I want to be honest and fair. I expect to leave a little meat on the bone, for the dealer to pay his expenses. Just not enough for him to retire on
So, What's your best guess? 20, 25, 30%
Thanks in advance for the input.

I've seen 20-25% talked about on these forums recently. Not specifically your model, but consistently about the industry.

We bought our coach at 28% off MSRP, custom ordered to our specs. I understand 28% is pretty standard & is what I would hold out for.

I would figure what the price would be at 30% and counter with that. I would also figure what the price would be at 25%, which is very reasonable and use that as your absolute bottom price if you end up in a back and forth negotiation with the dealer. Very simply put, counter with 30% but "do not" go below 25%. There "are" other identical coaches like you want out there. When our negotiating gets to the "final" offer, I present our final price, if they accept, fine; if not I get up, walk out and never look back or acknowledge the sales persons presence unless they accept my final offer. I also do not give them any phone contact numbers or any so called honest money for them to take the offer to the sales manager. They are trained to wear you down, play on peoples emotions and say what they think you want to hear.

25%-30% is a great deal. You are looking at a 2015 so the discounts may not be as steep. It never hurts to ask for more. What's the worst that could happen? They say no? Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the Newmar family a bit early. Post pics when you take delivery.

This is definitely a new situation for me. Sitting down with a salesman, face to face, is one thing. Trying to get a discounted price on a coach, from a dealer in another state, is another story. I wouldn't want to fly in to some place, just to try and get the deal done (ordered). If I did that, I would automatically have a stake in the game (air fare), and it would be much harder to walk away, if I dont get the price I'm looking for. What's even worse, is that they would know it. A sure sign of bad things to come.

There is a lot of percentages tossed around, but not always model specific. I got 20% off my Baystar, but more for the trade than other dealers, so how do you want to figure. Also, I think the higher priced coaches often get bigger discounts than lesser priced ones. I don't know if you can compare a Baystar discount to a Ventana or Dutch or King, etc. The end price I received was the lowest of three quotes and a long time Newmar dealer, family business, service department run by the son so there is some longevity there. If you can get 20-25% on a Baystar that would be good.

We negotiated 25% on our 2008 Canyon Star in late 2007. We did not have a trade. To get this we got prices from dealers throughout the country as we wanted to do factory pickup. I knew that I had reached their best offer when the salesmen stopped responding when I counter-offered! We negotiated with all dealers by e-mail and phone.
Ended up getting it from a dealer who gave me the best price the first time. Unfortunately they no longer sell Newmar, otherwise I'd recommend them highly.
With our deal, paperwork was done with e-mail and FAX, did not visit the dealer until we picked up the coach. We ended up picking up at the dealer, but would do factory delivery if we were to do it over again (cost about $2000 more).

Was this because of the punch list that you found on inspection, or some other reason?

Having worked at a dealer I will say 30% is 30% regardless of msrp. It doesn't make much difference whether it is 100k or 300k. 30% would be 30k or 90k. I would most certainly offer at 30% off but being a 2015 go no more than 25.
