ISB Fuel Filter/Water Separator

In a couple weeks I will be changing the oil/filter and fuel filters as part of the 6 month chassis maintenance. My current fuel filter/water separator is an Alliance Truck Parts filter with a separate clear bowl on the bottom. The replacement is a Fleetguard FS1065 and is nothing like it. It is all one piece.

My question is, does the Fleetguard filter have a water drain and two electrical connections like the Alliance filter? Just seems confusing to me why so different between the two.

Has no one changed their own fuel filters?

I'm using the Fleetguard on my DS and it is all enclosed and has the two electrical wires at the bottom of the filter.

Changed mine last year with a Fleetguard filter, it has a electrical connection, one piece. I also ordered a Alliance filter on eBay, the bottom screwed off on old Alliance filter and went on replacement cartridge.

The details are lost to memory - but I remember that Alliance part being very difficult to locate. You have to be careful because Alliance makes another filter which appears bo be the same but has a slightly different suffix on the part number but is of a larger micron rating. I too got the Fleetguard one but the wiring was not quite right - can't remember if it was for the heating element or water sensor. Due to placement and the fact that Mongo the gorilla from Freightliner installed it, it was tough to remove. Restarting the engine was tough too.

You can get the Alliance filter at a freightliner dealer!

Changing from Alliance Fuel/Water Separator to Fleetguard

Still have a question concerning the fuel/water separator filter. The Alliance filter has two electrical connections. The Fleetguard replacement filter only has one electrical connection. Has anyone actually changed to the Fleetguard filter and if so, how does it work with only the one connection?

I'm on the road now but I think I removed the electrical connections and switched them between filters. I will look at my filters on Tuesday.

Would you by chance be able to take a picture of the installed filter also? Thanks.

OK, here we go, I replaced my Alliance filter with a Fleetguard filter. I removed the electrical connection from the old Alliance filter and installed it on the new Fleetguard filter, no problems. I found new Alliance filters on ebay.

Hopefully they interchange. On mine, I've been buying the original Alliance filter at Freightliner. The Alliance has a small heater in the bowl. I believe one wire is for the heater and the other is the water sensor.

I appreciate the pictures. However, mine is different as it has the two connections like Dutch Star Don. I will continue with the Alliance part. Not sure why the Freightliner manual states to use a Fleetguard filter that isn't anything like the original.
