Well I'm back from a 6,000 mile trip that took me to the west coast of Canada and then U.S. So how did the fan cooling work that was updated late may. It has the 61" belt and is equipped with the solid one piece frame guard.

I went through the Rockies from Banff via the Cashe Creek route (I do not recommend this route for large MH's). This was with full water and loaded as well as towing a 6,000+ lbs. Escalade. This route required constant Jake brake applications and the weather was HOT (100+ F. in some areas). All climbs were done at W.O.T. (wide open throttle). Due to the temperatures the fan clutch was engaged during 60% or so of the Jake applications which exceeded 2300 RPM repeatedly. Throughout this grulling run that lasted 10 hours, the engine and transmission temperatures behaved no different than normal. The engine operated between 172 and 203, generally 186 or so. The tranny shadowed the engine temp.

Now some hard long climbs. Route 12 north out of Lewiston Idaho called the Lewiston grade, 7% for 7 miles. Loaded with Escalade behind, I started from a near stop at the bottom. Full power W.O.T. all the way up the 7 miles.

Speed during climb. 49 MPH
Fan engaged much of the way up.
Engine temp 172 to 190, but generally at the low end in the 170's.
Transmission temp shadowed the engine and also averaged about 180 F.

Crossing South Dakota July 24/25. Temperature 108 F. with readings as high as 110 F. Weather channel confirmed 108. Again towing Escalade on cruise control at 70/73 MPH and dash AC full tilt. Temperatures for both engine and tranny absolutely no different than running in cool weather. I met a guy with a fairly new Revelution. He was over heating and had to turn off his air conditioning and ease up on all climbs. Mind you, it was a rear rad.

During and now after arriving home, I inspected the belt condition. It shows no wear or abuse. It is as tight as it ever was. While the guard was contacted there was no damage to the back of the belt. I think they have found the answer. The vibration, by the way, was only apparent at about 2,000 RPM and really is not bad at all. It borders on acceptable.

So Kado's to Spartan. I'm very pleased with the performance the cooling package delivered and these were in harsh conditions.

Thanks, Spartan.

Peter

Would that be US-95 North out of Lewiston? US-12 runs east and west. I'm headed that way (southbound) next summer and was wondering.

Cruzer, Yes it is U.S.95, I don't know whether 1t uses part of it or not. But, yes 95 would be correct.

Peter - Thanks for the in-depth update. It's REALLY nice to hear that this fix seems to do the trick.

Peter,

What oil pressure did you have during this run.

On another note I had the tag axle wheel bearings replaced by the dealer last week
as per Spartan Service Bulletin CSB07-340-001A dated 7/19/07.
This service bulletin covers certain Spartan MM and K2 Chassis built between 3/17/06 and 6/25/07.

It took about 2.5 hours.

Hi Bruce, My oil pressure was 32 PSI consistently. I had the tag bearings updated by Spartan in Charlotte at the end of May.
