We just came home from picking up our 97 Mountainaire 40 DP in Mesa, parked in driveway and levelled with the HWH 610 automatic system. Next day my son said big holes in driveway, - when store activated one big bang the 3 jacks went up and the other on the driver front - you can see the pad is up on an angle at the underside of the coach and the leg is still down in the hole. Tried to use HWH manually but no luck as I suspect need the springs to pull the leg back up. Have the HWH manual and think we should release the solenoid manually but do not want to start messing around in case I make the situation worse. Have emailed HWH but have not heard back from them yet - any suggestions? thanks

You have to wedge somethin under the ram and then use a 2x4 or a floor jack to manually raise it the rest of the way. Make sure the lights or on the control board.

Hi lolley,
Forget emailing HWH. Call them. They may need to call you back, but they are very good about returning a call. They can walk you through the process of getting the jack piston raised.

Look carefully at the springs. At each end of the spring (just before the hook) is the spring tapered or straight? If they are straight, they need to be replaced. While on the call with HWH, you could confirm this and order new springs. Have your instruction book and model number handy when they call.

To install new springs, there are a number of threads on this subject. Basically go to Lowe's and get a bunch of paint stirring sticks. Cut the stick into 2" lengths. With the spring in a vise, insert the paint sticks into the spring spiral. About 20 should do it. The objective is to make one spring long enough to allow you to slip it through the connection hole in the pad. The spring on the other side of the pad should have gone on first. There is no need for paint stick spacers on the first spring.

a k is correct, you'll need to get under the piston and "help" it to retract. This can be made easier if you allow the fluid to return to the reservoir by opening the valve for that jack. You'll need to find the reservoir. The valves, pump and other components are located around the reservoir. On my coach, the HWH components are located in the front of the coach on the passenger side.

Thanks so much for the help. We will give it a try Saturday and as I'm not working on Monday can give HWH a call if we need to order anything once we see what is going on down there. Thanks again.

Success! thanks a k & GaryKD. After my hubby dug around the jack leg in the hole he was able to push it up. Gary -the paint sticks worked like a charm - hubby says very smart idea! No damage done and springs in good shape - that certainly isn't a mistake you make twice
