Hello gang. Just signed on the line to get our first new coach: a 2010 Bay Star 3202. I was very impressed with Newmar quality, even on their entry-level coaches....it just blows away the quality on some "higher level" rigs from the competitors. We won't pick it up for a month or two as we are under snow up here still, but we are very excited about our third coach and first NEW rig we have owned.
What are everyone's thoughts on extended warranty and the interior/exterior protection packages? I was thinking about getting 4 years extended coach warranty on top of the basic 1 year....supposed to cover appliances, slides, everything...its another 2200 bucks or so. The dealership also asked us about the protection package...this I am a little more skeptical of. Its Scotchguard or similar all over the carpets, seats, etc inside as well as a paint sealant on the outside. Is it worth it?

Welcome and congrats! We are on our fourth Newmar and now in a 2009 Bay Star 2901. It has the same fit and finish of our two MACAs and our 2000 Dutch Star. We love the 2901 as it is easy to drive, park and maneuver. It also has plenty of room and a full queen bed.
I don't recommend any extended warranties.....read the fine print. The $2200 will buy you a new AC/heatpump and you will have $500 to spare.....put it in the bank and wait till something breaks. I might only recommend some tire coverage. A tire on the road can cost upwards of $400.
Have fun in your new Newmar....

WELCOME to friendly iRV2 and the NEWMAR Group.
We ordered a 2008 BAY STAR 2901 in summer of 2007. Just as it's comes from the factory.
We forgot to asked even for a discount. 2 month later it arrived. We have now 15,000 miles on it and it runs and runs, like a FORD engine should.
Nothing broke sofar. Lost a few bolts and nuts. Factory used some metal screws. Different bolts and nuts should have gone in. We found the trouble in time. Inside everything is fine and works just fine. Easy to operate everything. V 10 has horses to spare. Yo will just love the unit.
Drives fine.

We never know the future, but for the most part you will probably find all problems / flaws all in the first year which is covered by Newmar and not need the extended warrantee. Save the money. Same for paint sealant, protection package etc. Not needed.

I do not buy any type of extended warranty. The "tip off" is how hard they try to sell them to us... obviously a good deal for the seller.
I'm sure some have been "saved" by an extended warranty, but it obviously is not something that happens to the majority of buyers.
It would be interesting to hear from some that did benefit more than the cost of the policy... to see what the percentage is. That could be an interesting poll.
My philosophy is "...put the same amount in an interest bearing account and be your own insurance co." That, of course takes some discipline... to not use it for other things. But if one does, I believe one would be further ahead.

We never purchased an Extended Warranty just put the money in the Bank and added each year.
Why we did this was, if you read each of the MGF Limited Warranties you must have their product Factory serviced each year, not by you but the Dealer, their Factory, or a Camping World type repair shop that is approved by them.
Now, after being on the road 10-11 months per year for the past 6 years, things are starting to get old and we have a plan to replace of our Electronics-Microwave-etc. over the next 2-3 years.
So far in the pasted few months Front TV-new stove grates-was going to replace the sofa bed, but the guy cleaning the carpets told the DW he could make it look new [could not believe how he made it look new after what the Grand kids did to it] good for the next 3 years.
Become your own Extended Warranty Company.

Welcome to the ranks of Newmar owners, I am positive you will not regret your decision. You are correct in your assessment of quality......not too many brands offer full body paint over their entire line.
As to a warranty, we purchased one with our first coach and never used it in four years of ownership. With our present coach, we decided to skip it and have not been sorry. Most issues will pop up under the warranty period.
Happy travels with your new coach, be sure and let us know when you get it.

In 2004 I purchased my present HR. I got conned into an extended warantee. As with most people I financed a portion of the cost of the m/h. They slid the warantee payments in with each monthly mortgage payment. The warantee ends in 9 mos and I still will be making payments on it.
I thought the tire coverage was a good idea so I bought that too. Same story. But, 2 years ago I had a flat tire. I called the tire warantee company and they said that the warantee covers the part of the tire that hits the road, not the sidewall and has to come from some outside source (i.e. road or debris). Guess what part of my tire blew? At that time I was ready to replace all of the tires anyway after I viewed the inside of the damaged tire. I now carry a spare.
I used none of those warantees and spent about $2500.00 that I took on the chin, and continue to pay for.
So you can guess my recommendation.

Congrats. My thoughts on Extended warranties are that they are big profit centers for the seller, but if it is a good one could give the buyer piece of mind. As for protection packages, clear coat doesn't need anything and putting something on a new paint job could actually be harmful. For the interior, buy a can of scotchguard and do it yourself. That is what the dealer will do and charge you big $$$$. Protection packages and extended warranties are how car dealers can sell a car for a small % over cost and still make big $$ on the deal.

Hi HMXDave,
Congrats on your new Newmar. For me, forget the protection packages. Keep her clean inside and out and she will be fine.
As to the extended warranty, I have a different view than the previous posters. My 05 had a three year warranty. In addition I purchased an additional 4 year, 70K miles service contract. For me, I'm glad I did make the purchase. The service contract cost about $3.2K. I now have 68K miles on the coach and unfortunately, have benefited from the extended service contract. I've had 4 claims totaling more than what I paid. The claims were after the three year warranty had expired.
The bottom line is the company that backs the warranty. Check out the company and see what their reputation has been for how to deal with them. National Warranty of Florida is my service contract company. They approved and paid claims very quickly. The service centers involved were also pleased when contacting them.

Thanks for the kind words and the advice, Gang! We have 11 months in which to decide to add the extended warranty, so I think we will use the heck out of it...see what happens. If we happen to get one with a "hint of citrus", I might add the warranty at that time. I think we'll pass on the "protection package" as well...the DW will Scotchguard the interior where required and I am a compulsive "wax guy", so maybe about mid summer, I'll give 'er a whole coat of Rejex. (learned about that stuff on here....was sold when I did half of the DW's Accord with good paste wax, and the other half with Rejex...the Rejex is STILL beading and shedding water 6 months later)
