Left Custer,SD this morning and traveled across South Dakota to Iowa today and the ambient outside temps were in the high 90's and over 100...

While this wasn't such an issue on the East Coast and in Florida, I did notice in Florida it was harder to keep the front (zone 1) cool on the hottest of days...

Today's issue....With the rear bath floorplan and the engine hatch on the granite floor, the temp in the rear bath was 110 degrees!
This also meant the temp in the bedroom was in the high 90's...
This also had a residual effect on trying to keep the living area cool as well...

I tried two different air conditioning scenarios....I first ran the #1 and #2 air units on high fan and tried to "push" the air back to rear of the coach.
I then tried running the #1 and the #4 (bedroom) air on high...
Right now, as we sit at rest this evening we're running the #2 air over the couch and dinette and the #4 bedroom unit and it's comfortable.
I also ran the rear bath fan for a while to try and pull out some of the hot air,but it seemed to be pulling the cool air from the ONE ceiling vent in the rear bath...

Have any of you folks that also own a Newmar rear bath coach experienced this issue?

Do they put a sensor for control board in bathroom or just in the bedroom area? If you run all AC's will it stay cool? I will just run my front AC and close a pocket door to bedroom and it cools the front end easily. I could close pocket doors to rear bath and bedroom would cool down with only front AC. But than again my engine is up front.
Maybe you could have the dog house insulation, for gas, added to the bottom of access panel to your engine.

Thanks for the reply Roger, but I'm not thinking closing off the rear bath where the heat is being generated is a viable option...
I have three ac units...one in the very front, one in the kitchen area and one in the bedroom...The rear bath only has one vent of the bedroom ac, but they're all on a common plenum.

Regrettably, with respect to your engine in the front and mine in the rear we are in fact apples and oranges toward a solution.

How about the insulation like on a dog house for gas. If I run both airs more cool air comes out of the plenum. Maybe Newmar can add another vent and return for you.

Hi Bob! I believe we have 4 vents in our bahroom? (maybe two)I can check next week. The only place the MADP has direct vents is the 2 bathrooms. Our sensor for the rear air is in the bedroom. I believe the LADB has only 3 AC units? If so why #1,2, & 4? We have never traveled in as much high heat as you have. Our bathroom is one of the coldest rooms in the coach. We had problems with cooling the front of the coach. You have to remember that the MADP has hidden vents, up in the "fancy" wood ceiling, whereas the EXDP, KADB, and LADB have direct vents. Newmar solved our front cooling problems by blocking the air duct after the wood ceiling ends in the front. In other words all the air flow from the front unit would go all the way up to the front,(other coaches have direct vents up front) with no vents to come out of. It doubled the wind speed out of the front vents (yes Newmar actually measured wind speed out of all the vents) They also told us when it is really hot to not use the auto setting on the fans, but to use the high settings (which you are already doing). They told us that on auto the fan runs slower then high, no matter what. The only thoughts that I can come up with, you have a much bigger engine then we do in the K2. Could your engine be putting out more heat then ours? If adding vents dosen't solve your issue, Newmar needs to think about 4 AC units in the LADB and KADB. Paul

Hi Bob! One thought just came to mind, maybe I do only have one AC vent. I wasn't thinking, but the other vent would be the return. If no one else answers today, I will run out to the warehouse tomorrow and check (I have been looking for a reason to visit the Jet Mobile) Paul

Paul, as you may or may not remember, the bathroom zone in ALL Newmars is zone 3 so my air conditioners are labeled 1,2 and 4...

I haven't been able to run this issue by Carl or Jason as it's the weekend...

We're at HWH awaiting the solution to "that" problem, will check with Jason tomorrow for his suggestions...

Bob,

I have an Essex with the rear bath and it stays cool all the time. I haven't traveled in the heat that we are having now but I have traveled when the temp was in the low 90's. Hope it continues to stay cool in the coach as I'm planning a trip to Boston in the next two weeks and the high temps have me worried.

Good luck with staying cool. I'll keep checking in to see if someone has a solution for you that may also help the rest of us with the bath and a half units.

Charlie
