Hello all,
I haven't been on the site lately, too busy trying to make a few $ in the Obama era.
We are planning a trip to Key West between Thanksgiving and Christmas and would like a recommendation from a seasoned veteran as to where to stay and what to do.
Thanks,
JVR

Hi JVR, I'm a veteran but not very seasoned. I just spent my first weekend down in the key s last week. There are some great places if you are a retired vet. Coast guard and the navy have places with slabs, boat rentals, ect. outstanding! If not, we just spent some time at the KOA in the keys and we loved it. There are a few state parks but finding space is hard. Check this site out Florida Campgrounds and Camping - ReserveAmerica
Hope it helps. I'm told Bahia Honda is the best, again space is an uncommon virtue. Josh

If you have kids and want some activities like swimming, fishing, drinking, etc. stay at the Sugarloaf Key KOA.

For more peace and quiet, Bluewater Key RV Resort is REAL nice.

With teenagers and friends in tow, we don't do 'quiet' very well so we always stay at the KOA.

I second Bluewater Key, one of my top 4 in the country.

We stayed at Jolly Roger on Marathon Key. Lot cheaper and less crowded than Key West. Its about half way down the keys. We really liked the place, staff was very friendly, campsites on the water, quiet and price was reasonable.

Hi JVR,
I'm a bit late for your thread, but if you can, join us at a NKK Rally. December 3 - 10. Two days early and late is also okay. The rally is at Sunshine RV Resort at MM 39. $30/night. If you are interested, please contact me via a PM at iRV2 or email at garykdp@bellsouth.net. We welcome all Newmar product owners.

Try eating at Mangrove Mamas' and Geiger Key Marina when Yankee Jack is performing a slice of the old Key West.

Mike & Peggy,
Thanks for the tip, we have never been south of Miami, so any Key West info is greatly appreciated.
We live at Smith Mountain Lake in Central VA, but love excursions to salt water destinations.
Thanks again,
Virgil & Debbie

Yankee Jack also plays at the Sugarloaf KOA Pub. We saw him around Easter.

Great entertainment - especially when he plays his "Free boobin' it" song and you see which DW's had a few too many drinks...

We buy one of his CD's everytime we see him, play them all the way down RTE 1 through the Keys. Great mood booster.

Glad to hear that Yankee Jack is alive and well. We spent hours listening to him about 5 years ago in Key West, but could not locate him this past March. We stayed at Boyd's Key West Campground and felt royally ripped off. Enjoy Key West, but be ready to pay!!!

Originally, we planned to go to Asheville, NC and spend Thanksgiving, but our friends who went last year canceled at the last minute, and we are now rescheduled to go to Asheville on 11/21-11/23 and start south toward Bluewater Keys, since we have over a week before our reservations start at Bluewater we are looking for something to do on the way.

We have St Augustine in mind but would like to try something new, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

We have a 9 yr old son who we are home schooling during this trip from 11/21/2009-1/3/2010.

Itinerary so far:
Asheville Campfire Lodgings beautiful small campground very near Asheville
Bluewater Key 2weeks
Fort Wilderness at Disney-world 2 weeks
