Keys

I only received one set of keys for our DSDP. Went to Ace Hardware/Lowes & was told either a locksmith or I would be paying the original equipment mfg $150 a key.
I am certain this is not the case?

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wrong, basement door keys are semi generic, from your Newmar dealer are not expensive. I bought three for under $10.
Dead Bolt door key is comon garden variety. The other one from Newmar?
$150/key is quite a stretch. If you took the whole set to a locksmith I doubt you would spend $50.

Depends on what kind of key you have. If you have a "chipped" key, they require a special key blank. You can usually find these on places like ebay. Just make sure you get the right one. Go to you local professional locksmith shop, not you local hardware store. They will tell you a couple of things. Is you key chipped, and what the cost is for a chipped or plain blank key...

I just had the same issue. Went to a couple of locksmith and none had the blanks required. Called Newmar and I sent them a picture of the keys with the numbers. They sent me back 2 copies of keys. I forgot what I paid for them but it wasn't $150 per key. Newmar can supply copies of all the keys with the exception of the chassis key, that comes from chassis maker. I got blanks from Ford, in your case I am guessing Spartan or Freightliner.

Yikes I'm glad things have changed with my 2015. I had three duplicates of all keys made by a locksmith for the normal fee.

If they were not special keys, I just don't know why they would cost that much... Call Newmar...

Special may not be the case, not so commonly requested and stocked seemed to be what I ran into

I seen blanks on ebay, Its better to take the key to your dealer and find out what type you have, and either order from them, (I've done that, not expensive at all), or order the blanks on line by the type number.

Then just have them cut, duplicating the keys you have.

I have a freightliner chassis and I went to Lowes and they was able to cut a ignition key. The blank was not exactly correct but the key works fine.

Your best bet is probably a qualified locksmith.

Lowes or Home Depot do not have the blanks.

I went to a locksmith for an ignition key (FL) and Trimark door key. He had both blanks and charged $3 per key.

Trimark sells keys on eBay. I have used them also without problem. You need the key code.

I bought keys from a site on the internet with a simple google search of the word trimark. Each key is numbered and I ordered several keys. By coincidence I was driving past my local locksmith and stopped in...they had every blank I needed and cut all of them quickly and accurately and very inexpensivley. I'm in Clermont Florida.
