I'm boondocking in the NC hills but am trying to prepare for another situation I'll be in on January 1. I know if the Inverter is OFF the charger will still operate with shore power ON. What I don't know (and not in position to check now) is whether if one is in STORE condition with Inverter OFF will charger still operate with shore power ON. Looking for some one who has been there -done that or has more technical manuals then I have top be able to check. Thanks

ecker:
I ran a test on an 07 EX 4502.

Shore power: PLUGGED IN
Inverter: OFF
Charger: ON
Then switch coach to: STORE
and the charger still charged at the same rate as with the switch on USE as measured at the batteries.

I also tested by unplugging the shore power after being in the above charging config to simulate a power failure and the charger came back on when power was restored.

However, two things are key 1) the shore power must be plugged in FIRST and then 2) switching coach to STORE must be done LAST. I tried it setting the switches as above while on battery power only then switching to STORE and then plugging in the shore power afterwards and there was NO charge. Again, all this measured at the batteries.

I'd make sure to set your "PWR SH" setting on the display panel equal to or less than the amperage of the shore power to make sure the charger will not ramp up enough to blow shore fuse if you are running less than a 50amp shore.

Thanks that's very helpful. I am trying to work out a deal on storage where the power to rig would be cycled on for 30 days-off 30. It seems like based upon your second sentence this would work as long as I follow the procedure to initially set it per your comment.

Hi Jeff! Don't forget the DSDP does not have the same panel and electronics that the Essex has. It is a different. He may also have a different invertor. It may be a Xantrex. Paul

---------------------------------------------------

I do have Xantrex but it has a Set Shore Power capability in the RC7/GS control in 5 amp increments from 5 to 30 which I assume will do what is needed as described.
