Koni Shocks

Got my new front and rear Koni shocks installed, adjustable up front and FSD's in the rear. The left front shock looks mighty close to rubbing on the steering knuckle, but the folks at Precision Frame where I bought them say it's not going to rub and won't be a problem......OK, they've installed a bunch of them and should certainly know. I won't be able to give them a good checkout for a while, but I'm anxious to see if they will soften my ride. Fingers crossed!

Hi lhill,
What setting did you leave the front Koni's at? Mine were left at the factory setting which is the softest setting. After 15K miles I remain happy.

The folks at Precision Frame set them to medium, they say that medium will be the best for my chassis and weight.

I assume you are referring to Precision Frame in MN. They installed mine also, in August. So far no problems. The ride and handling is better, but not perfect (probably not a shock issue). My understanding is that there are 5 settings on the adjustable shock, with 1 being the softest, mine were set at 4.

Yes, Precision Frame in MN....I bought the shocks from them but had them shipped to me here in TX where I just had them installed. I believe they were set to position 3. I'll give them a good tryout before I change them to softer, if needed. For years I read everywhere how great a Spartan chassis rides and handles, etc, etc....boy was I ever disappointed when I got on some really bad roads with mine! My previous rig was an '06 Bounder Diesel on a Freightliner chassis.....I'd give about anything to have this Spartan ride as good as my old Freightliner!

My 2006 K2 Spartan was like night and day. Fronts set to center. I don't see how comfort drive could improve mine.

That's great to hear, I'm expecting a big improvment while knowing that ALL chassis will slam/bang under the right circumstances. I guess a drive across Indianna on I-70 would be my choice for a test on these new shocks. If they could smooth out that road a little, they're pretty darn good.

We have the FSD's on the rear and adjustables on the front (Koni doesn't make FSD's for our axle yet). Set the fronts to the least resistance from the middle setting. Think I'll leave it there.

I recently installed Koni shocks on my 2008 Kountry Star after reading many posts on this site. My biggest problem was bottoming out on dips and chuck holes because of the lack of compression dampening. Wow, what a difference! Not only does it not bottom out, the ride is much improved over small bumps and expansion joints. I have mine set one click from the softest. I always thought Bilsteins were good shocks until now.

Hello, I just ordered four FSD Koni's from Precision alignment....I was able to get the FSD's for the front also....I have a new 2010 Newmar Bay Star....don't know if that would make a difference - $159 each plus shipping. Looking forward to a smoother ride....the F53 chasis, from my experience and all I have read needs some improvement on the ride. Safe travels.

Koni

When I was checking price, Spartan had the best price by far.

Spartan (http://www.rvchassisparts.com) does not list Koni shocks for Ford (only Bluebird, Workhorse, Spartan). They do list Bilsteins for a lot of chassis though.
