We bought this last year and had a terrific time, but the house batteries have us stumped. So many buttons- we for sure have not been able to figure out the correct combo. Need to be able to keep the fridge and my laptop running while we are driving. The batteries are charged and we were told when we brought it in that there was nothing wrong with them. I fear it is an operator error. Help!

Do you have an inverter for the whole house so you get 110-120 volt power when unhooked from shore power?

Welcome to the Newmar forum & irv2.
You should have two 12V outlets on dash board wired to your chassis battery supply.
Your altenator will be charging your house batteries and chassis battery.
You need your battery cut off switch on and it has to be on when your connected to shore power line or house batteries will go dead.
DO you have a DP or gas coach?

I will add 1999 Owners Guide on previous post and a brochure.
You may have a BIRD System which you can find information in Quick Tips.
There is more battery info in QT for your coach.

I double checked. This is a 97 model 38'. There are no outlets on the dash. We have the battery switch over the door along with the slide and water pump switch. This was all working fine the first 2 days out. We must have neglected something.

You need to have your battery cut off switch on for the house batteries to charge while plugged into shore power. Shown lower left corner. Your battery cut-off picture is on page 7-3 of owners guide.

While your traveling the alternator may charge your house batteries.
This will happen if you have the BIRD System.
I thought for sure there was at least one 12V on my 98 & 99 KS coach's but I could be wrong. The outlet would feed off your chassis battery.
My battery disconnect will read the voltage of the house batteries on led display.
Have you checked your house batteries to see what they are reading without engine running or hooked up to shore line?
Where is your inverter located and do know what type or model it is?
Here is a thread on 1997 coach and troubles with batteries. Never heard back from OP if he fix his problem.

I looked again as I did not get that the 12 volt outlet is the charger/cig lighter outlet. We do have one of those. We will follow the instructions and hope it works. Thanks!
