Had my steps fail this weekend, the linkage broke just as it comes out of the gearbox. Have ordered the linkage from PPL. Question, has anyone performed this task and if so is it a pretty straight forward job? Can it be done without removing the gearbox assy? Thanks in advance for your assistance......

The linkage you will get may not fit into the gear box. At least the one I ordered didn't. They said they sent me the one I needed for the replacement steps that I bought from them couple of years back.
The trouble turned out to be the step side rails binding to steps as they raised.
I had to do some adjustments.
I pulled the motor and gear box off but I could not figure how what they sent could possibly fit and call them explaining the problem.
The linkage on my steps just required a nut to be removed and linkage would fall off shaft and you would just place another and tighten with nut.
What they sent was linkage but it was attached fixed to a shaft that I had no way of installing in gear box.
PPL has been responsive in other dealings along with pricing but a problem this time.
They said its the only replacement for all the steps they sell.
