Kwikee Steps Question
The magnetic switch that operates the steps.
Is the switch normally open or close ?
Thanks
Don

Normally open until you place the magnet close to the reed switch, then it's closed. Hope that helps.

No, you want a normally closed contact. You can get one from Radio Shack if you have one near by. Also, it's rare for a reed to fail. If you take the wires of the contact and short them the step should close and vise verse. Sometimes reeds get "sticky" and you can tap them firmly with a screwdriver handle and free them up.

I have to replace ours about every year. But the dealer went out of business where I use to buy them. Now trying to order one on line. I've had everything check out the the motor and all is fine. I will try the screw driver trick..
Thanks for the info

I've got a few if you want one. I'll spring for the stamp and you can have the contact for free. Just let me know what color (white or brown) and shoot a private email with your mailing address. Again no cost, just nice to help out.

I had one fail on my Lippert Coach Step steps. When I tapped it the steps would open. Was worse at low temps. Radio Shack didn't have the type I needed, unfortunately (Opened with the magnet close to the switch). Found one for a few bucks on eBay, turns out they're used as door contacts for security systems. Wrong color but much less than the $20 wanted by Lippert.
Kudos for giving Don M the switch, you're one of the "Good People" (referring to a post I read tonight about someone else who sent another member a set of new $$$ shocks just for the cost of shipping).
