During a particularly windy rainstorm here in Orlando a couple of days ago, water started coming out through the satellite speaker in the front right of the coach.

My intuition tells me that the seals are leaking on one of the many items on the roof. However, my visual inspection didn't reveal anything. I did not remove the satellite dome cover.

We had another light, no wind, rain last night and there was some moisture this a.m.

Why is it leaking? Why is it leaking there of all places? Help please.

As an aside, this trip has produced a blown coolant line, 2 slides not working, broken fridge water line, screen door handle falling off, hinge plate on a cargo door falling off, jacks overextending on a level surface, and a leaky speaker. We've given up on about 10 other things that aren't right like the black slide out marks on the carpet in the bedroom and the sticky bedroom door.

I'm able to handle all of this much better than when I first bought the rig, in no small part because of this forum and its fine members. We are still camping at Disney and the vacation is not in jeopardy. However, it is becoming tiresome.

Not venting. Just don't think it is unrealistic to expect an uneventful trip now and then.

Scott,

We feel your pain. Really we do. Not on this coach, but on our previous one....much older one....we could hardly ever take a trip without a major event and roof leaks were frequent until we redid the roof.

When buying this coach almost 2 years ago one of the things we have done is set up calendar reminders for a number of things. One of them is inspecting the roof and seams every 6 months. While in Tampa last month is the first time we (that is of course that marital we, Don did the work & I kept telling him "good job") actually did something other than inspect. Don caulked with silicone where appropriate and with the self leveling stuff where appropriate and added a surround of Eternabond to all the vent caps. He has a plan to do all seams and around Fantastic vents, skylights, etc. with Eternabond at some future date to stave off leak possibilities.

One leak place on our previous coach was a nearly invisible cracked lens on one of the clearance lights. This let water in that then traveled to drip out of the front most florescent light fixture. It did take us quite a while to find that one. We are finding being proactive has worked to better protect us and hope that continues.

Check the silicone seal around your clearance and marker lights, this is where our leak through the speaker originated.

Scott, Where the water appears to enter has little to do with where it enters. Basically it travels and exits inside the coach where it wants to. I would clean and reseal the front cap roof joint.

Hey Scott--

I've had water leaking through most of the five amber clearance running lights for two years.

I've relpaced all the lights with new ones, and gaskets too. They still leaked. I've silicon sealed them too-- still no luck. I even hand made new gaskets for both the base and the lens and they still leaked. Then I cleaned all that crap off and started over with flexible, corded, non hardening, weatherproof sealer. That's working best of all my attempted fixes, you don't have to remove the lights either. Just place a bead of this stuff on the top edge of the lights and halfway down the sides-- press in place. You can also place some where the lens meets the fixture-- even over the screw and their recess cavities in the lens.

My front cap is curved. To place a flat light fixtures on a curved surface is not the brightest engineering application I've ever seen. If I tighten the two screws too tight, the lenses break.

It's frustrating-- It's a work in progress and I ain't going to give up on it until I'm "high and dry"------

Hi Scott,
My vote is also the front running lights. Unfortunately, one can not see where the water enters. Do what Max suggested, it works.

It took me 37 months before I took a trip and nothing broke. I got only one trip like that. We are two days into this trip and the furnace wouldn't light. I guess my furnace is like your coach. Unless one uses it, all the time, it doesn't work until you pat it gently (with a hammer).

We have had the water from the ceiling twice. Both after high wind and a lot of rain. I will try the sealing of the clearance lights.

I feel very fortunate with my Newmar. Every time we setup or break camp, I wonder if something will not work. But, thank God, it always does. We have only had a few problems in the 3 1/2 years owning and fulltiming in our rig. I contribute it to two factors. First, its a Newmar, second it is a less complex gasser. We were considering upgrading before the economy crash, but it was going to be hard giving up a rig that (knock on wood) does not give us any problems.

Thanks to all. I will look into the indicator lights. My inspection of the roof mounted items didn't reveal anything.

Not sure why all of a sudden this problem popped up. All I can think of is that I had it washed and waxed the day I got down here and maybe the powerwasher affected a gasket.

Hi Scott--

We're glad to see you back in business on the forum.

Go here to see the product I used-- Replaceable cord weatherstrip

I got it in a hardware store in Booth Bay Harbor, Maine. I imagine Lowes/Home Depot carry it also------

My Dutchstar leaked out the right front speaker once. It turned out that it was the little rubber cap on the crankup batwing. The water was following the cable down to the rubber cap that was off of the entry hole. Reseated it with a little caulk and never had the problem again.
