Life of a BlueOx Aladdin tow system

Interested in peopleís experience in the life in years and miles for this or similar towing systems. Posting here as the Towing site appears to be for newbies. Ours has some play in the joints and not sure if a rebuild makes sense? Are the bushings just worn vs bolts loose?

If a rebuild, which we have never done, I would appreciate knowing where this can be done. BlueOx is recommending replacement after 8-10 years which we exceed.

Thanks

Watching with interest as mine is 13 years old. Have not heard about replacing it every 8-10 years. I service mine myself.

If yours is the older 5,000 lb model, mine wore out in about 4 years and under 20,000 miles. Blue Ox wouldn't warranty it at the time.

I have the older model (weíve had it 3 1/2 years...30k miles), and I think ours is rated at 6,000 pounds. I called about servicing it. They said just send it back and they will inspect and refurbish. Their price includes shipping each way. I just have to box it up. They will email the prepaid shipping label.

You can rebuild it your self if need be, I've seen kits available. Or you can send it back to Blue Ox, or just plan a trip to their factory in Pender, Nebraska. They have a full hookup campground right there that was free to Blue Ox users. I took a factory tour and they showed me how to take the bar apart and properly lube it every year.

I had my Roadmaster Sterling for at least 10 years. It's been rebuilt twice with no problems and remains ready to go again if I want although I did buy a Nighthawk. I've never seen a definite lifetime just like tires. No one knows exactly how long they'll last.

Blue ox will do an inspection and a refurbish at some rv shows /rallys. I do my own but have talked to reps at shows about it. Life of unit may depend on care and use, Tom 07 Pacifica

I would purchase a new tow bar. I had the same tow bar that had a catastrophic failure after it was five years old. The metal split where the arms connect to the yoke. The tow vehicle ended up hitting the back of the coach. Thank goodness for safety cables. There was $3200. damage to the back of the coach and $1450 damage to the front of the tow vehicle. Blue Ox was great. They paid for all the repairs and sent me a new Aventa tow bar.

Blue Ox will do service on their hitches at most of the big RV shows, I had mine done in Sept. at Hershey and it cost $35. Well worth it.

Blue Ox must have a new policy on service, at least they did at Quartzsite this year.

Posted prices:
Tow Bar Aged
1-3 years $50
3-5 years $75
5-8 years $125

Roadmaster was still servicing for free.

Check and see if they will give you a trade in discount on your old tow bar for a brand new one. They did for me at the factory, but that was a few years ago.

The original Aladdin tow bar should be replaced asap. It had aluminum shafts which suffered metal fatigue. The new version has steel shafts. Blue Ox admitted this when mine broke but did not offer to replace it or cover the damage to the toad.
If the RV show service price has gone up that much I would seriously consider a Roadmaster model next time.
