Lift Pump for Sink Drain

I was surprised to learn a piece of equipment behind a panel in a Canyon Star bin was a lift pump to pump water from the kitchen sink drain into the gray tank.

I wouldn't think any drain from a fixture above floor level would need to be lifted to get into a tank located below floor level.

I can only think something blocks the drain pipe route from being a continuous downhill grade to the tank and the drain pipe must loop over whatever is blocking the pipe route and thus the wastewater needs to be lifted over this obstruction.

I'm not worldly in the RV arena but have never heard of this type set up before.

Is the sink in a slide out? That might make the pump necessary. I agree, it is an added system that could fail, but it's probably necessary.

Hi - Could you post a picture of the device? You have my curiosity raised.

Yes, it's in a full wall slide.

Only photo I have just shows the panel in the bin which hides the pump behind it.

I wonder how this pump is handled during winterization.

If it doesn't have a low point drain or a place to remove standing water, I'd imagine dumping some RV antifreeze in it for the cold weather.

Normally it's recommended to put a cup of so of antifreeze in your traps to prevent freezing and breakage, maybe they are expecting that to winterize the pump?

Real curious about this since we have a CS. Don't recall any pump behind the sink. Do you actually hear it operate when you use the sink? Is there a fuse for it? Also did you ask Newmar about it?

We don't have the rig yet.
It's in the model we have on order (3513)

I asked the salesman what it was when we looked at that model in their showroom..

The pump is not at the kitchen sink location. It's located in a bin on the drivers side.
If you had it you'd know it. It's large.
