My water pump switches are not operating properly. They are shutting off in a few seconds without warning. I have been told that the water pump controller may be bad or going bad. Does anyone know where the controller is located on a 2002 Mountain Aire gas (Model 3778)?

cgmartin744 ,
I had problems with my switches several years ago. I purchased three new ones, I installed two of them and all is working well now.
I don't know anything about a controller.
Some one on this forum said some time ago that you need to use the same switch to turn the pump off that you used to turn it on. Why?- I don't know.
Sometimes I still have to fiddle with two switches. That happens when the Bride turns it on and I don't know which switch she used. I know she won't open the water bay to use that switch- . That narrows down my search- .
Good luck,

cgmartin744 welcome to the Newmar forum & irv2.
From what I can recall its all done by the switch's you may have 3 I have 4 because of two baths. I believe the switch's are three way so if you have to replace one mark the leads so you put them back correctly.
If all your switch's do the same thing cut off I'd check the wiring near the pump may have something loose.
The green light in your display area may not be from that switch in that area.
With two other switch's in the two bathrooms maybe on the green light would be on and you have to go hunt for it to get green light off.
As I was Captain of the ship I would tell everyone on board that I was putting switch in display area on and do not operate any of the other switch's in bathrooms.
That would make it easier for me when we were camped and on CG's water system just had to shut of switch in display area and not have to hunt for the other one's.

According to a local RV dealer and confirmed by Newmar, the coaches have a water pump controller that controls the various momentary contact switches. I never knew there was such a thing, but Newmar sent me a diagram (it's made by Intellitec). They cost $40-50 and I even found a couple on Ebay
The purpose of the controller is to allow you to turn on/off from any switch and to only have to run small wires to each switch from the controller. Then the controller is connected to the water pump with larger gauge wires, so you would think it is located reasonably close to the pump.
If I turn the bathroom switch on, for example, it should stay on until someone turns it off (or turns another switch off because you should be able to turn the pump on or off from any switch). However, mine will turn itself off after a few seconds. Then, the next time, it may stay on for 30 minutes. Both the dealer and Newmar said that is likely causing my problem.
BUT, WHERE THE HECK IS IT????????

Here is the PDF to a pump controller, I have never seen it will have to look must be in one of the bathrooms.
The wiring looks like it clips on the thing and there maybe a loose one.

Well I haven't found it pulled off display panel, checked the small bath & the area around the water pump.
Will check other bath and in the water bay tomorrow.
They sure do not make it easy.

Thanks "007" for your help. I'm also stumped on this one. You would think Newmar would have the schematics on each year and model coach and could tell me its location but they said they didn't have any such diagrams. Oh well, I guess we'll have to keep looking.

on my 2002 3758 model the water pump relay switch is located in the water compartment bay on the right side near the top just inside the door. a small solid state device that does not appear servicable. I am also having trouble with the pump system staying latched. my problem started after replacing the water pump. no problems prior to that. also here is a link to a typical controller http://intellitec.com/PDF/5300145.000.pdf

Welcome clouddancer to Newmar forum & IRV2.
Checked your location nothing just switch in water bay with two wires off it.
Plenty of wiring but thats for level indicators.
So went to rear bath, already checked small bath, and thought it maybe in location where my slide control is for bedroom slide, nothing, so just to be a nice guy decided to pull display board off again, thinking I might have over looked something, nothing, only thing mounted on wall in there is the favorite speaker everyone makes comments about.
If I ever have a problem which I never have with three coach's will give Newmar a call with build number and see if I ever had one.
Sorry thats all folks.

I looked in my water pump bay today. The two wires that supply power to my pump just disappear up into the compartment ceiling. I'd have to rip it down to trace them- .

Thanks for all your help guys. I'm with Max. The wires from the water pump just disappear into the flooring area of the coach. I'm going to keep looking but Newmar really shouldn't make it this hard to find a replaceable item like this controller.

I can,t figure how to add a picture but on mine again its just above the hand held shower faucet a small module with several wires on a molded plastic clip. Also from what I read it all works on the grounded side of the wiring. At that I just had a thought. I'm going to install a ground wire on my pump to the frame. A shot in the dark but my problem started after I installed a new pump. never before. The pump is soft mounted on rubber mounts to isolate it for noise. will post the results later. Jack
