The owners of a Newmar do you use the lock on the slide out when you travel?

We use ours. It is a manual type. According to Newmar tech it is for safety but it also makes the slide seal better and helps keep out any moisture or dust/dirt. If something happened and I didn't have it locked and should have --- I would feel pretty stupid. Enough things can go wrong that you can't prevent. The one in the front over the driver's head rattles and we drive with a small pillow wedged in there to quieten it.

I do the same, had a accident when someone cut us off had to correct steering fast

, 4 wheeler bumped the passenger side front bumper push MH into fast lane, would look pretty crazey with slide hanging out side of MH.

I have the manual locks and use them, for the same reasons Fillitup mentioned in his post.

We always lock manual lock arms. Saftey comes first. Some friends were in a group tour and one of the couples passenger slide "slid open" on tight curve...did major damage. Hummm...makes you wonder how fast he was taking that curve?
One of our lock arms would rattle loose...drive me crazy noise..needed tighting up...all better!

Fillitup, we too use the manual jacks when in transit and used to have rattle in front one behind driver. I finally noticed that on the inboard side there was a 2" slot that the arm could move up and down. Now I slide arm all the way up before engaging and no more rattle, Ken, '04 DSDP...

We use ours as everyone else has indicated except for the bedroom slide. The lock arm towards the rear of the coach is hard to get to, so I only lock the other one.

I don't use mine as much as I probley should. I never thought about the slide mooving in an accident!

Extra slide movement also wears rubber seals locks pull slides in tight to cut down on most movement.

Thank you everybody for the info.Now another problem what you do to be sure that you don't open the slide with the manual lock on?

There is a designated place for the locking tool, if the slides can be opened. The locking tool is placed inside the steering wheel. This keeps the tool out of the way, when parked. It is also easily visible. If the tool is not inside the steering wheel, the slides are not to be operated.

I always lock at least one on each slide. I was told by the previous owner if you are not going to travel to far that is OK? Anyone have a comment on that? No rattles yet only have 9,000 miles on 2004 Mountain Aire 3781.

It's like your not going very far so why buckle your seat belt? Only you can decide. I use all locks all the time. It makes for a nice solid and well supported fit as the coach moves.

We have a checklist that we use. My wife reads out each step and I execute or vice vesa. She will double check. Whether we move 30 feet or 300 miles, we use the checklist.
