Locked out? Emergency entrance....

I've seen multiple threads regarding being locked out of the coach. Various entry methods have been discussed, my favorite is the gentleman who removed an air conditioner and crawled in through the 14" hole......
During factory pick up of my 2017 DSDP, I had Newmar install a switch in the electric compartment below the driver window to raise and lower that window with the ignition off. That switch is most likely the best existing solution to being locked out of your coach. However, it relies on the coach having a working electrical system.
I would suggest another solution, where Newmar would install a keyed access in the emergency exit door. The door could be opened with a key only, from the outside. I know some here have fitted their exit door with a way to enter from the outside, it seems like it would be a good idea to have an emergency entrance from the factory.

Makes perfect sense to me. It would be nice to have a secondary way to get into the coach - just in case.

If you do it yourself it will probably work when needed.

any lock smith can unlock your entry door in seconds.. just as another option.

btw, don't buy into the lock smith baby cry that this an rv, it is different/difficult and take too much time and cost more. they can open it literally in 2-3 sec.

I have a spare key under my 5’er that’s tied to the wiring harness with a zip tie (cable tie). It’d be almost impossible to find, even if you knew to look for it and yet I could get it in about 30 seconds.

Mine is in the od TV compartment. keep a spare key somewhere on the other side of a locked door.

I’m beginning to think I should carry a spare emergency exit window. I already have the ladder and hammer.

I agree a keyed lock on the emergency door would be a great option!

Hide a spare key somewhere around your sewer hose connection .. Nobody will look there

Several people have reported the the internal parts of the lock break and even if you have a key, you can't get in. I leave a window unlocked incase that happens.... I also have a couple extra sets of spare keys hidden incase I do loose mine while out on an adventure

I had that exact thing happen. Someone broke into my coach while in a storage by busting the glass on the entry door.

Took it to a glass shop and after they replaced the glass and closed the door we couldn't open it again.

Some of the broken glass had worked it's way down into the lock mechanism. Fortunately my drivers window was open so I was able to get inside and eventually fixed the lock problem.

Although I have spare keys attached to my frame I always leave my drivers window unlocked.

Just spit balling ideas here but what about taking your rig to a good auto accessory shop and have them see if they could add a key-less lock solenoid to the emergency door lock and a numerical pad to the outside of the door.
