Or--- 2 long hasp locks, just big enough to fit over the cord and a small piece of chain-- one lock on the shore cord with a chain and the other on the surge protector with the other end of the chain.

I converted my power cord and leave the protector inside the bay.

All good suggestions but if someone wants your Surge Protector they will get it ... mostly, I worry about leaving it behind when packing up. My surge protector is tied to the power cord with a 4 foot piece of parachute cord. It's "tied" so I can untie to add an extension to the power cord.

I have an ext power surge and did not want it outside, specially when raining. I have cut the power line between the transfer switch and the power reel. placed a male/female 50A connectors and placed the Ext power surge right inside the compartment. safe and sound and can be replaced easy compared to the more expensive internal power surge units.

I lock mine to the pedestal with a padlock. Almost all pedestals have a lock hole. Even though its "weather proof" I keep a plastic bag over it, as we had to return one that got rain inside of it.

We just use a padlock that goes around the narrow part of the surge protector. We attach a braided metal cord to the padlock and then attach to the hitch.

Modify the cord so the portable unit is inside the coach is the best way to go, imho. This also precludes driving off and leaving the portable unit on the pedestal (don't ask me how I know...).

Adrienne, which brand of surge protector. Progressive's have a 'collar' on the power connecting cable that you can run a locking cable through. I use a short bike cable and wrap it around the power post. TRC Surge Guard brand has a 'lock hasp' as previously mentioned.

I just bought a 50amp extension cord. I leave the coach cord on the reel and the protector locked in the bay, run the extension cord to the post.
