Looking at an '07 DSDP 4023

A real beauty with just about every feature we want with exception of a residental refrig. I noticed that in the external power cord compartment (has powered cord reel) that I see no surge protector, main 50a cord goes directly from the "Bucket" to the Xfer Switch. Is there any factory installed surge protection (like an '07 MADP) located elsewhere or must the owner install one?

There is no surge/voltage protection standard on any Newmar that I know of.

Newmar has an optional (on DSDP) load management system that is probably standard on the MADP.

Newmar does not provide a surge or power transformer protection. This decision is for the owner to make. There are several brands to choose from.

Thanks folks, I would install one if we get this particular MH, I have one on my Bounder Diesel.
Also, if I may, I recall reading about piston issues with the Cummins 400....do you think that an '07 would fall into the time range where these engine problems existed? This DSDP has on 8800 original miles on the clock. Thanks again!!

It could be. The engine serial number is on the sticker next to the drivers seat.

Defect Summary: CERTAIN ISL CUMMINS CM850 DIESEL ENGINES PRODUCED FOR RECREATIONAL VEHICLE APPLICATIONS BETWEEN OCTOBER 17, 2005, AND APRIL 18, 2006, WITH ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE FROM 46543077 TO 46603939. THE CONNECTING ROD CONTAINS A MACHINING DEFECT IN THE WRIST PIN BUSHING OF THE ROD THAT COULD CAUSE SEIZURE OF THE PISTON PIN.

Consequence Summary: IF ALLOWED TO PROGRESS, THIS COULD LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ROD RUPTURING THE BLOCK CAVITY. OIL AND DEBRIS ON THE ROADWAY COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
