Looking at used 2000 Newmar Mountainaire diesel 59000 miles. Seller says everything works. Looks good.
Any words of wisdom?

Hi sac1,
For me, I'd have the coach checked out by two different service techs. A engine/chassis certified tech and a coach certified tech. See if you can get a service contract for the first year of ownership.

sac1,after the checks that GaryKD sujested, age of the tires, would be #1. If with low mileage,if they are original to the coach, could be they will need to be replaced before you travel. Some techs will only look at the tread condition, and not the dating of the tires. Age as born out in numerous threads about blow-outs and seperation is paramount in RV tires.

Check all the systems yourself . . .
  • Plumbing - fill it with water. Check that water pump works, toilet flushes, and nothing leaks.
  • Power - power up genset and see if it powers the coach. Then connect to shore power and check the same. Check all the lights.
  • Rear View Camera - does it work?
  • Propane - check that the cooktop lights.
  • Water heater - if it's a gas/electric check that it works in both modes.
  • ACs & heater -- fire them all up.
  • Fridge - turn it on on both modes. After about 4 hours, the freezer should be getting pretty cold, but not so much for the other side.
  • Slideouts - bring them in and out a couple of times. This is an opportunity to test the jacks also.
  • TVs - crank up the antenna & test that both TVs work.
  • Batteries/Inverter - pull out the battery drawer and take a look. Test if the inverter/charger works.
  • Engine/driveline - get at least one mechanic to look it over.
I was in the same boat as you a year ago & it all worked out ok. However, for a coach this old expect to start replacing systems -- fridge cooling unit, shades, ACs, etc, etc.
