Looking for 50A Surge Protector recommendations

We're getting close to placing our order and I want to have the Newmar service department install a top-notch surge protector when we take factory delivery. Recommendations?

You will get arguments from both camps as to whether you should get a hard-wired unit or an external one. I am in the external camp and this is what I use. Either way, Progressive Industries offers both and has the best warranty and service.

I had my Dealer hard wire the Progressive EMS-HW50C in to the electric bay before we picked up our coach.

I am in the hard wired camp but progressive for sure. Out of site, out of mind is my theory. BTW, these devices can be by-passed if there is a problem so why have a portable? Unless you plan to sell the coach soon.
I have the remote readout mounted in the bathroom but I have it on my to do list to remount it in the electrical bay so I can see it when I plug in.

I prefer the Progressive Industry hardwired. Install it once and forget it. Lifetime warranty and there is a bypass switch should it take a hit and the circuit board has to be replaced, which progressive sends at no charge.

Progressive industries for sure. I have the 50 Amp exterior to supplement my built in from the manufacturer. Good company if you ever have an issue.

I didn't have the space to install a hard wired one inside so I installed the portable one in a basement compartment. Never had to touch it again.

We have the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50C Portable unit. I like being able to test the line before I connect any part of my MH to a power pedestal.

Odd mixture of wet bay and electrical bay.

Hi MikeGriffin,
I have the Surge Guard brand portable. Got mine in 05. It remains a good performer. Never had any trouble with it in 10 years. It has cut power to the coach several times. I got the Surge Guard brand because of attending rallies with attendees running off a rally provided generator. At that time, Surge Guard had the specs and millisecond delay to overcome many coaches drawing from the same generator. Those with Progressive had quite a few outages and then wait for the time delay to return power to the coach. Those with Surge Guard Brand had no outages. The same when I hosted events. Those with Progressive complained about outages. I was never called to a coach with a Surge Guard. Progressive seems to be a bit more sensitive than Surge Guard. There was never any harm done to a Surge Guard coach. Remember we are talking about milliseconds. If you will be attending events with attendees running off a generator, consider the Surge Guard Brand. Don't know what the specs are today. Consider going to each company's website. Read about them and compare specs.

I also have the Surge Guard voltage regulator.
