Lose Hinge Screws Front Hood

Needed to add some windshield washer fluid plus just check the generator area yesterday. Opened the front hood and discovered driver's side hinge screws falling out. They were so bad I'm not sure I could have gotten the hood back down again.

Used some 2-part epoxy and slightly wider screws and re-attached. The other side was still doing good.

I guess this is an area I am going to have to start inspecting every couple of months.

It's very easy to lift the hood too high and pull those screws loose, as the hinges reach maximum rotation nearly at the same height required to position the prop rod. I had to do the same repair as you, after the techs at the dealership pulled the hinge screws loose while adjusting the hood latch.

Poor design on Newmar's part. Needs a hinge with more upwards rotation OR a limiter strap to prevent over extension of the hinges.

Finance, after reading your post it got me thinking. I assumed it was just a weak design attachment from the factory, which I guess it really is. But in my mind the vibration of traveling probably contributed to the screws coming out.

However, you are correct on pushing the hood up too high. Now I'm wondering if when that FL service center up north serviced my gen set they pulled the screws and either didn't notice it or didn't want to say anything?

The same shop will be doing my annual maintenance this summer. I'll have to make a note to remind them on using caution when pushing up the hood.

The screws holding the latch assy. to the hood can also loosen up and even fall out! Another item for the periodic check list.

My hinge screws fell out the first month of ownership. North Trail just used larger screws to fix it. Haven't had an issue since.
