Loud A/C-heat pump

My rear A/C and heat pump register 80 decibels at the head of the bed. Wondering if anyone else has/had this problem and what you did to quiet it down?

Is it that loud on start-up or all the time?
Have you tried running the Fan on that unit manually at its various speeds to eliminate the fan as the source of the noise?
Ours make a racket on start-up but aren’t too bad while running. If we are in real hot climes I’ll leave the fan running on medium so it doesn’t cycle with the compressor. Constant running fan adds white noise that is not unpleasant to us.

Loud A/C-heat pump

I have 3 Dometic A/C units and 2 of 3 have been replaced for noise under warranty. I was told by a few that it’s a known issue with them (especially in HP).

We had the same problem yet the heat pump worked fine. The fine technicians at Newmar removed the cover on the roof and discovered the unit stroud was vibrating and hitting the actual unit under the cover. They could see on the inside of the cover where the unit was rubbing against the inside of the cover. They put some foam material on the inside of the shroud and the noise was gone instantly!

We have same coach. Very quiet rear a/c. Yours must need attention.

My rear AC/HP unit has always been louder than the front. This week the evaporator coil line burst & filled the coach with refrigerant. Not sure if the two were related but interesting coincidence.

Cheap fix, we wear ear plugs to bed when we are using the rear heat pump. As mentioned before, it is the start up that wakes us up. Once running it's not bad.

How loud is the FRONT heat pump at the same distance. If the difference in volume is readily apparent, have it fixed under warranty. Either the loud rear unit is defective (manufacture, installation or whatever), or the Front unit is defective because they accidentally built it right. Given that you have a comparison right there for them to see (and hear), you shouldn't have a problem demanding it's replacement. After all, it's a brand new coach!
