I'm one of those people who hate the electronic
hum coming from certain every day components.
My Mountain Aire's master switch box is
maybe 18 inches below my head, in the basement
along with the shower, water inlets, converter, etc.
When connected to shore power, i have to go
out and turn off the power to sleep; otherwise
the switch hums all night. I am reluctant to
mess with something so crucial. There's no
obvious latch to open it. I was thinking
of moving it off the panel and insulating
with a piece of foam, then attaching it
somewhere else where the resonance is less
obtrusive. Or perhaps making a cradle for it,
so that it doesn't touch the panel at all
and thus won't transfer the hum up into
the bedroom.
Any ideas?
thanks

I know you don't want to mess with the transfer switch but if you can find someone who will you may have a relay in it that is not completely operating because of dirt or iron fillings caught between the relay poles. If someone works on it pull plug and don't use a screwdriver within it or you could blow ckt board. You have a 1998 MA the switch could be wearing out. Has it always buzz at every CG or has it just started at the one your at? "007"

You didn't state if your MA is gas or diesel. If it is diesel and the hum is high pitched, check in the compartment next to the transfer switch. See if you have a black plastic panel maybe 14X16 inch. If so, pull on it. It is attached with velcro. Behind it is a diesel control module.(Don't know what it does!) Mine was emitting a high pitched noise. At times you could even hear it if you were at the back of the engine compartment and you could hear it when you were in bed.
Asked Dealer about it and they got it replaced under warranty. It should make no noise.

It's a gas coach, and the noise has
always been there. It's similar to the
noise flourescent lights make when
things are quiet.

Art the switch is not that expensive $ 155 at Campers World could wait for sale. You could try to wedge some rubber door stops behind the box, you will have to back off box mounting screws. "007"
