Love Bugs-How bad can they get? Really Bad!

Headed out from our central Florida home for a week in Key Largo. I knew the Love Bug were pretty bad, but I didn’t expect this...I literally could no longer drive...after a mire 90 miles. May and September are Love Bug season here in central Florida. Maybe that is why our Winter Visitors usually leave by April.

So I hooked up a hose the the water outlet by my generator and for 5 minutes I sprayed the windshield while running the windshield wipers. What a mess! A week later and I am still working on cleaning ALL the bug off my MA.

Yup, that's how bad they are.

We are in an RV park Mims FL, so the RV is staying clean, but the poor car needs to be cleaned every trip.

Hopefully they will be gone when we pack up and head north.

That is why I try to keep up with the rainX on the windshield, every little bit helps.

Yeah...I’ve vowed to stay home next May. I’ll use that month to wash/wax the coach and not drive thru Love Bugs.

We just took a short five day trip to Orlando. Only 155 miles. I had to stop in a Walmart parking lot and use my windshield cleaning pole and gen bay water spritzer ... My visibility was so poor I thought I might run over a little kid if I didn’t clean the windshield before getting to the campsite.

Spent about an hour and a half cleaning bugs off the front once we got there. Returned home yesterday, and spent another solid hour cleaning yet another round of bugs off.

Where do they all come from? I must have killed a billion of them...and didn’t even put a dent in the population.

Use Rejex and they will wipe right off. I use it on the leading edges as well as the windshield and headlights.

This is the worst it’s been in over 10 years. I have dealt with these critters since moving to Florida in 72. We had a warm Season. They hatched in March and really came to life over the last 3-4 weeks. September could be a real “bitch” too. [emoji33]

I’ve seen a lot of posts about Lovebugs and thankfully never have seen any. My take if I was in that area would be to use some of the transport film that they use when delivering new RVs. Wouldn’t cover all, but below the windshield would be a piece of cake at covering. Mind you I’m talking about diesel pushers where there is no front radiator to block. JMO Randy

we left west central Fl for Blue Water Key on May 4. The love bugs were really bad just north of Sarasota and by the time we got around Naples, not too bad. I had to pressure wash the front to get them off. Only time it was worse was about 20 yrs ago up in the Panhandle . The front of my white Class A was literally black with them.
We head back to the Tampa area next Friday-- hope they are gone by then

Going from East Tx to Bella Terra later in June. Is there a time of day they are not so active?
Thanks

Just imagine how full the air would be if we didn't have these massive amounts of semi trucks, cars and motorhomes driving down our highways thinning the herds?? Crazy!!

They only live 3 or 4 days, and that's If they don't get smashed.

Hi danleininger,
Consider purchasing this https://www.amazon.com/B-S-T-45032-B...s%2C262&sr=8-3 Takes off love bugs like they weren't there. No scrubbing. Spray on and let stand for a few minutes. Spray again as you wipe the bugs off. Been using it for years.
