Luggage storage on roof of a MH?

Okay, who has ever put a roof luggage storage container on their MH???

I tell ya, have space, I'll fill it. Then I pull everything out and thin out, and repeat. I'm getting to the point I'm going to have to start roof mounting storage, or daisy chain stackers behind me I need to install a train smoke stack on the front of my roof, that would be cool looking! I could hide some antennas in it.

Back in the 80’s storage pods were popular, I had two on a Holiday Rambler and they provided a lot of storage but not sure if they are still made with popularity of basement storage over the years.

Doesnt sound like a good idea to me. Rigs already high enough and i would say most roofs are not designed to add much weight in a relatively small area and holding up to almost hurricane force winds for hours driving down interstate. Just my 2 cents...

I looked at putting kayaks on mine at one time. Decided that a post rack was better for the truck
Let me keep the bed cover and full use of the bed.

The big issue is loading and unloading without damaging coach, contents, self.

Once on top, proper fasteners can be complicated, and a failure could make local news.

My parents added one on their Foretravel. It was screwed directly into the roof and they were never able to stop the leaks around the bolts and finally had it removed and holes filled in.

I wouldn't want the hassle of climbing up on top, plus the probability of leaks and structure damage wouldn't play well. Why not use your tow behind vehicle as storage ?

Our rig came with a luggage type rack in the very back of the roof area. The ladder curves over the top of it. I never actually thought of putting luggage up there though. Our coach is a little less than 12ft tall at the top of the A/C shrouds, so there is vertical room for stuff I guess.

Since your 2027 Essex is going to have a built-in toad garage, maybe Newmar can accommodate pod storage too.....
Kidding aside, why not put the cargo storage on your toad?
Easier access thatís for sure.

Itís actually meant as a joke but Iíd figure Iíd share the thought to see who acted on this idea. And yes, Iíve learned to overflow to the toad such as inflatable kayak, lawn chairs etc. Doesnít solve the problem of Amazon Prime continuous flow into basements and overhead storage though. :(

As already said, in the 80ís-90ís it was a pretty standard add on, I had one back then. As I remember, not so convenient carrying items up to the roof, and I was much younger back then

Landing back at our winter spot I have already weeded out "stuff" we didn't use while traveling all year. It either went to our nearby storage locker or in the garbage.

Of course then we added Kayaks to the mix. It just isn't the boats, it is the paddles, life jackets, car racks, transport wheels, etc...etc...

Full again!

This thinning out is a quarterly thing for me! Just did under the bed yesterday to make room for a Dyson that I don't need as I have central vac but prefer the ease of use of the Dyson. Yes, I added an inflatable kayak which added all you mentioned and a life jacket for the dog.
