MCD Shade Remote Conversion - Hole in wall?

For those of you that converted from the large black plastic 14-channel remote to the new digital remote. How did you deal with the empty large remote holder on the wall? Did you remove the holder, leaving a hole in the wall?

Newmar sent me a replacement holder for the smaller remote a couple of months ago. It fits the hole just like the orignal one. Contact Newmar CS to get one.

Is it possible that you could post a photo of the new remote holder?

Thanks

Rex

When did this remote become available? We have a 17 DS & have the larger one. Also anyone purchase this to add to replace the bigger & what is the cost? I assume it’s a pretty easy install?

I probably need to call my dealer & order a new smaller remote and holder as we dropped our huge one & it is badly broken. Question, was programming the new one a pain?

Here is my understanding after calling Newmar. If you have the old style motors, you have to use the large remote. The new digital remote is designed for the new motors. They have the old style remotes is stock (pricey).

After calling MCD, they offer a new digital remote for the old style motors. The photos they sent are white and I don't know if they offer a black model. They are on order and will not be available for a couple of weeks. And, MCD has refurbished old stye remotes available. As you might expect, the prices are higher at Newmar after their markup.

When you mention old style motors are you saying any coach that has the larger remote, or was there a year the motors were updated? Just curious as I have a 2017 DS with larger remote and think I’d like to do this upgrade.

Thanks!

As I recall, all 2017 Dutch Stars have the old style motors and larger remote. UNLESS, the coach was updated to the newer motors and digital remote. MDC was making this conversion and possibly Newmar as well.

I believe all 2018 Dutch Stars have the new motors and digital remote, but I could be wrong on that.

MCD received a bunch a defective motors in 2016. They just stop working. Unfortunately, our 2017 Dutch Star had the bad motors. I have replaced all but two motors in the past two years. Now, one of the buttons on the large remote has broken and I need to replace it.

And, yes, I think it is safe to say that if you have the large remote you have old style motors.

Our 2017 has a build date of late August 2016. The MCD large control and the shades never worked correctly. When we were at Nappanee in September of 17 for some warranty work they changed out every shade motor and replaced our remote without us even mentioning the problem. Obviously there was a problem during this build period. The new wall holder was sent to us a couple months later. All this was done at no charge to us. The shades and controller have been flawless since (knock on wood).
