My 2006 DSDP is on 305-70-R22.5 tires; they are in superb condition (exterior) with 22,000 miles only but......I understand that years or time of non usage do count.....so I intend on changing them next year (this 2011 in October) before travelling during Wingter from Canada - Is the XRV still a good Michelin for my Rig ? -

Hi Renden,
While the XRVs are fine, consider the XZA or XZE models of tire. They are a sturdier (more in the sidewalls) than the XRV tire. I have the A in the rear and the E on the front. They ride very smooth.

Michelin XRV's (305/70 R22.5) came on my 2009 Dutchstar and while I don't have many miles on them yet they seem fine. In talking to others I have found no one with any problems. You are limited by the tire size but I would not be hesitant to use the XRV's.

Renden,

Have you checked out the following thread:
Changing Dutch Star tires from 255/80 to 275/80 ?

I switched from XRV's to XZA3's on the front and will replace the rears with them when it's time. My XRV's were 255 80's but if the 275 80's fit my 2000 DSDP, I would expect they should work for you, but read the about "clearance" in the subject thread.

Just a point to think about. Michelin doesn't recommend that you have to change out your tires after 5 or 7 years or a certain number of miles. It says to have them checked by a Michelin rep after (I think) 7 years and to replace by 10 whether or not they still are in good shape or not. They don't say NOT to not replace them, just that you don't have to. I'm going on 8 on mine and have them checked before my annual trip every year. So far, so good. And yes, I have XRVs.

After reading Michelin's material again - agree with you that inspection is of importance each year plus any change in the ride etc. as recommended by Michelin. What pressure (PSI) do you keep - I have 95 all around. I do tow a small 2,800 lbs car. Mine are dated 09/05. They were checked in Oct 10 prior to my departure in Florida. So they are 6 years now.
As for changing my XRVs, I wish to keep the 305-70-22.5 because off its load range - The Zs do not have 305s - I figure Newmar had a reason too put the XRVs on the Dutch Star DP. Thanks

Plan to change them at 7 or 8 years if they are in good shape -

Mine are dated 0336 and I keep the fronts at 100 and the rears 90, both at the specs recommended for my MH. I also tow a 3,600 Saturn Vue. I agree with you about keeping the same tires, especially if you have no problems with them. In my case, since I'm so totally mechanically challenged, I also figure that that particular size must've have been put there originally for a good price in addition to the MH manufacturer getting a better price for buying in bulk. I envy all those who are capable of working on their own RVs, especially their creativity. In the meantime, I just try to keep mine well maintained according to the manfacturers recommendation. It hurts in the pocket in the short term, but I hope to benefit in the long term.

I've got to second Denny on this one. I took my coach in last year all prepared to whip out my wallet and the man told me there was no reason to change the tires. 04 date code and 35,000 miles on them. He checked them over and said they were fine and not to worry about it. He said they see them all the time with 10 yrs on them and still running fine. And yes, it was a big truck tire dealer selling Michelins for a living.

I have XRV's as well.
They are dated Oct 2005.
MH is a 2006 DP MA
We have put 30,000 miles on them.
I inspect them between and before each trip.
I have the "Pressure Pro System" on all tires, and keep them inflated at the following pressures all the time: front axle: 115 psi, drive axle 85 psi, tag axle 75 psi, which were the recommended pressures by Newmar.
MH weight is around 36,000 lbs.
I believe they can safely last 10 years.
Tell me if I am wrong.
Thanks.
SGB.

did he pull the tires and check the inside, i was told by michelin that this has to be done in order to properly assess the condition of the tire?

Good point. Tires can split from the inside out and you won't notice it until it loses air or blows. Been there done that on my Toad

Airplanes have tear down inspection intervals for inspection, but every so often something still goes wrong with them. Things happen even to new replacement planes.
