Now that you have the top grille off, you should be able to determine how the wood panel above is fastened. It could be nailed, stapled, glued, siliconed, or clipped on to the adjacent cabinets. If you can remove it, you might be able to install a wood shelf or metal bracket that will allow you to install the top mounting screws to the new microwave.

It's good to see how they mount these. Your digging has helped several people, I'm sure.

That system looks fine to me, with three screws fastening each side. You could mount the new unit the same way. I'm quite sure the unit is also attached to a wall bracket in the back as well. The average shear strength of a #8 steel screw is about 360 lbs., which means that the six screws at the front are more than adequate to the task. Since the microwave only weighs about 80 lbs. or so and has additional mounting points at the back, each of those screws is probably only supporting about 5-8 lbs. Even allowing for extremely bumpy roads there is a huge safety factor.

Good job digging out the details!!

Well I didn't have to replace my microwave after all. After doing some research on how the convection portion works I discovered that the problem was the bolts that attach the motor were loose and that was what was causing the fan to hit and stop turning. I finally got a very small wrench in there to tighten them and (knock on wood) we have repaired the convection part. Thanks for all the help and I am so glad I do not have to replace at this time.

Thanks
Cathy

Glad to hear you didn't need to replace you MW after all. Just in case you ever do decide to replace it or if anyone else on this thread is replacing theirs, here are pics of how I fastened mine. I drilled two holes and put screws through the cabinet stile on the right side of the MV, put a L bracket on this side as well and removed the bottom plate from the MV and put several screws through the side into the fridge cabinet. As you may be able to see, I glued a backing onto the fridge cabinet that would better hold the screws then just the paneled fridge wall cabinet. To ensure the side vent was fitted properly, I remove the grill from the outside of the coach and used aluminum foil tape to seal the MV vent to the hole through the wall.
