We have a 2006 Dutch Star and a problem we have experienced is the "vent" rattle on our microwave/convection oven.

We are first time owners and could not seem to get our dealer to fix the problem. We finally took the unit out and duct taped the vent closed. This fixed our problem but I am worried that taping this vent closed might have some type of safety issue. Would lke input from other owners if they have had this problem and how they solved it.

Thanks.

KR

Had the same problem. Took the factory two tries to fix. They put insulation around vent so there was no tin on tin rattle.

kr on older coachs the vent flap was on the outside wall on later coachs they put vent thru roof with cap. Your signature info is not posted so I will say you may have a kitchen slide. The older vent flaps had a tab that would close and hold flap from flapping.
You need some kind of tab from hardware store with stainless steel screw to hold tab to lock flap closed. You can use as I did your awning rod to close tab over door flap.
With your vent sealed as it is your going now have all moist air and cooking oils blown back into coach, not a good thing.
Information on your coach can be filled in your signature block on second page of your profile it will be just below where I have added your KARMA as member of this forum.
Did you find paint code for painting your HW heater door. Sherwin Williams should have spray cans to match your paint for door.

After several attempts of curing the rattle with different fixes finally had the vent removed this month. I was told the only downside might be the cooking odor flowing back into the coach. We used it for 10 days and did not notice any change...except no rattle going down the road which was WELCOME!

Hi Ron,
I don't think there will be any issues related to closing that vent. My 2008 MA has no vent and recycles air back into the coach. I use the fantastic fan to get rid of the smells.
Thanks, Daryl

I had the same problem. The dealer also informed me the only way to fix is to remove. I call BS. I have read other posts about the insulation put on the damper and or duct where the two come together.

In my opinion, the biggest downfall is that cold air will come through the vent in the winter when facing into a north wind. This is not good when it is cold and occupants are trying to stay warm.

The vent is part of the microwave assembly and is not designed to travel with a 65 mph cross wind.

I will ask to have fixed next time in.

We had the same problem with our mircowave oven. While at the factory last April Newmar pulled the unit out and reshimmed the mircowave no problem since. Ed.S

We've had two attempts made to lessen the rattle on our '07 DS 4307. Dealer has put foam insulation around the flap. Helped but didn't cure the problem.
