Mirror Adjustment - Should I?

I just traded in a 2005 DSDP for a 2016 VTDP. Unlike the DSDP, the VTDP driver side mirror arm angles toward the rear, while the door side mirror with the long arm angles to the front (like the DSDP). I wonder if the VTDP driver side mirror arm should be angled to the front like the DSDP mirror was/is? It would still allow line of site out the side window and not present a wider vehicle profile. I predict moving the mirror would also eliminate the whistle that now exists due to aerodynamics at highway speeds. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations?

I think you're going to find the new drivers side arm too short.

RB-

Funny, I'm looking to do the opposite.

We just bought a 2008 HR Admiral that has both mirrors out front, as your former DSDP did. I find that at my normal seating position the A-pillar blocks about one-third of the driver's side mirror. I'd like to move that mirror to the driver's side window, like your Ventana. The Admiral's arm is possibly long enough to swing the mirror that far aft.

Move your mirror on its mount and see if it works for you. If not, Ramco sells longer arms. You may need to extend the wiring for the motor, heater and turn signal. And, there's the possibility that you can install a new mount on the coach, further forward, if a longer arm with the current mount is not an option.

I came from a Class C, and expect to find the drivers side mirror out the side, rather than forward. It has an advantage- objects reflected in the mirror are larger. It has a disadvantage- your eyes are not looking forward. Maybe we both just need some time getting used to the differences.

I'd suspect the window more than the mirror as a cause for the whistle.

Oh, if you stick with the side mirror, you may want to install a glare shield. See this current iRV2 thread for details.

My 2015 DSDP have the mirrors mounted just like you Vantana. Drivers side mirror is back, not forward. It took a a while to get used to it because my 2013 Entegra had both mirror arms facing straight out and much lower.

I have the 04 DS and I think you find that your old coach with the wrap around front windshield would allow the mirror to be out front where as the flat windshield of your new model will not because of the position of the A pillar in relation to where you are viewing it from.

Those mirrors can typically be moved/adjusted with just a small allen wrench (as I did on our current coach). Doesn't hurt to try. Could be worth 15 minutes of your time.

We moved ours forward as it seemed to work better for us that way. The arm is short so it will not stick out in front of the coach like the DS pictured.

Leave the Ventana mirrors as they are, I have the same mirrors on my DS.
I like the arrangement.

Hi Bushy,
No matter which position you choose, consider making sure the mirrors are as close to the side of the coach as possible. The farther away from the side of the coach the higher the chances are to hit something or be hit by something. Toll booth lanes, CG parking, OTR drivers that want to play games as they pass are just a few examples.

Exactly what I just did on my DS. Doesn't stick out any more than when it was rearward, and easier to see.

Did that help any with the wind noise ? On our DS, the mirror is about and inch from the window and I get a lot of wind noise from it .

I would have to imagine it would help removing that venturi effect being near the window, although I haven't had the coach out with the change yet. Just did it this morning actually. I do know it looks a lot better.

When we got our DS the mirror had been moved forward and still was not as quiet as our Ks with mirrors out front. Mirror on side sticks out a lot more that front mount mirrors. Like Gary said toll booths are tight and trucks come close. I moved mirror to back position with about a 1/4" clearance from window, noise level is not any more than forward, mirror visibility is good but I have found that it blocks my side view to the left like having a very large side post. I did not even realize that I was looking through the gap between mirror and side window until I blocked it.
I have the glare issue with mirror mounted on the side. Backing in my driveway I can't see anything. Going to be making mod like others have done on this forum.
