MOD: Ice Maker Production

I have the Whirlpool model #WRF560SEYM05 residential refer in my 2019 Dutch Star. I'm sure it's the same as possibly the 2018 DS and maybe a couple of other years or models.

Some may think I'm nuts, but I resolved an issue that was annoying to me, but may not be an issue for you. Plus the forum was a little slow. It has to do with the amount of ice the Whirlpool refer makes. The ice arm, used to shut off the ice maker and determine the amount of ice made, is too long on my refer. It would only make a thin layer of ice and shut off, filling only about a third of the ice bucket.

I decided to order an arm for my model refer, use the original as a template, and shorten the new arm so it allows more ice to be made. To my surprise, the replacement arm was over 1.5" shorter than the one that came with the refer. This was the correct replacement arm per the parts supplier. This really made for a simple mod, just swap them out. I had to slip off the freezer door to install the new one as my short arms and fat belly prohibited me from being able to reach in and remove it. I expect the shorter arm will almost double the amount of ice the bucket will hold.

This is the parts supplier I purchased from and below that is the actual arm number.

Actually, that was one of the issues. You make margaritas for two couples and you pretty much drain the ice bucket.

Great mod! I wonder if they reduce the capacity for RV use?

Great find! That was one of the things we immediately noticed on our 2020 DS4369 vs our Allegro Bus. I was looking for a way to increase the amount of ice.

Easy, mix all ingredients together, mix throughly by driving 1 hour and 35 minutes on any California road. Stop and enjoy.

Hmmm.....Maybe an electric whisk bolted to the ice bucket!

Here is the ice bucket about 8 hours after I installed the shorter arm, it's almost double the out put and I shut it off before it was full, since we're at home for at least 45 days.

Neil, you ordered the titanium one with diamond pivots. I tried to order one but they were out of stock. You must have gotten the last one. You always go for the best parts for your mods.

The one Neil purchased form Newmar is a numbered limited addition. Sure to be worth more in the future. You get what you pay for.
