MOD - Kwikee Step Protection

Newmar reported to a recent member that the Kwikee step motors haven't been sealed as well as they should. I don't know how true this is, but it seems to me that there has been more than the normal failure rate after reading threads here in the past two years on Kwikee issues.

On my past two coaches, I added a mud flap to the front of the coach, just in front of the Kwikee step (about 6" tall x 20" wide. The idea was to protect the steps from debris and water. Looking more carefully at the rear of the step, there is much more open space for the front tires to throw water on them.

You can see the opening here in this photo. The square box in the background is the step.

I took a piece of plastic (mud flap material) and cut it to 20" long by 12" tall. I removed the self tapping screw on the OEM fender liner, near the edge of the fender and slid the new piece under it. I reinserted the screw and added two more bolts along the long edge, bolting the old to the new.

This isn't earth shattering, but I 'm trying to keep the road debris and water off the steps and motor and joints. We only see a small amount of rain in California, but this may be more beneficial in States with a lot of rain.

Looks good, as is all, Don!

If nothing else...surely canít hurt. Heck, after my run back east and back, just blocking all the the rain/snow caught on the step itself would be great!

Great idea Don, looks like it will help keep the road grime from the steps and step operating components.
