More Floor Slides Tile Cracking

I was told by a Newmar dealer just yesterday, while looking at an older DS with carpet, that the new "more floor" slide tiles are beginning to break and crack needing replacement. He told me that Newmar is covering the repair for now. How accurate is that statement? Also what are your thoughts on purchasing a 2016 DS?

I don't think it is an issue. No complaints on this forum. I almost bought a 2016 DS 4018. Great coach with all the latest Newmar DS upgrades. Sometimes tiles do crack, that's why they give you spares. Slide is probably not the cause.

When we took delivery of our '02 DSDP there were no tiles nor the crows foot wrench included and we didn't realize they were supposed to be in the rig when we took delivery. A while later Newmar dropped them.

More Floor Slides Tile Cracking

My 2016 DSDP 4369 has had no floor tile issues at all on either the slides or the main floor. Everything has been solid. No issues with tile or with grout.

My guess..... he made that statement because he wanted you to buy the older DS with the carpet. It certainly wouldn't be in his or anyone's interest to make the statement he made, especially a Newmar dealer, unless he was pushing the older coach....often more profit than a new sale.

Don is right on. Our 17 Dutch Star has had no problems with the tile. Carpet much more difficult to clean. Salesman has to have a $$reason to steer you away from the tile.

Wasn't 2016 DS the coach with the full wall slide and front axle problems? The 2017 got a higher capacity front axle. The axles on some 2016's were upgraded under warranty. The FW slide also needed to be upgraded on some coaches.

We almost ordered a 2016 but decided to wait for 2017 because of these problems. In 2017 the axle and the slide were ungraded. We got an early 2017 and there was a tilt to the floor on the FW slide. Newmar put new side support brackets on the slide for us that made the floor flat. After that three tiles broke. Newmar replaced the tiles under warranty and then there were no problems with the slide or floor tiles after that.

A 2016 DS would be good if the upgrades were made. There is a lot of talk about the problems on this forum.

We are very happy with our Dutch Star and think we made a good decision with our purchase!

We had a few tiles crack when we first bought the coach. The cause was the early version of the slide mechanism that would catch the main floor when rising up to retract, chiping the tiles along the seam. They replaced the superstructure for the slide at the factory when the coach was 18 months old and repaired all the other items on my list for free . No problems since. The front axle weight problem was only on the tag models.

IMHO, as is often the case, there is truth and deception in what was said....

the issues with sagging FWS's, due to the way the FWS framework was created, did cause tile and other issues on some 2016 models, and newmar repaired these under warranty, and to the best of my knowledge, is continuing to repair these, even if they are out of warranty.....

but, i also think what was said was said to sway purchase to the coach on hand....

We have 16 DS 4369 and the upgrades have all been done. Before the rebuild of the FWS we had some cracked grout in the bedroom portion of the FWS. All was repaired under warranty. Now we have two tiles with cracked edges along the FWS that has just recently happened. I cannot see a problem during operation but I will have Newmar check this out. Overall we have been very pleased with our coach and Newmar.

We do have one tile on the full wall slide that has cracked. Not sure why, but not really worried either.

I have three floor tiles that the full wall slide put travels over when retratcted that have cracked since my 2016 DS 4018 has been out of warranty. I have not discussed them with Newmar or a dealer yet. It would be nice if Newmar would replace them at no cost. I have been meaniong to contact them to see if you can still get the tile to match.
