This is a new thread on the slide-out subject - I did find one in 2007 and based on a member's recommendation I am starting this new thread with a new complication (for me) !!
2006 DSDP with 18,000 miles - at the Shop today for change of oils and filters, overdue as I bought unit in June and this had not been done Some dealers are not Pros
One lock of the kitchen slide did not completely come in (slide would partly tear the rubber) so I asked that this be adjusted which they did, so all is good until we try the sensor a few times after the lock was adjusted and the motor worked at first then starts making sounds !!!!!!!!!!! and nothing moves anymore - We took out the motor, opened it to find that the plastic gear(sprocket) was used up- stripped as they say ( totally), not engaging the other metallic gears..........a call to Newmar and this part does not have a gear repair kit - New Motor ordered - once it hits Quebec, taxes, broker fees, Airplane shipping etc. and Customs......$1,000 $C.
Have the members experiences this type of plastic gear problem (motor) ?

Newmar says they don't have a part for it? Huh, weird for an expensive $1000 motor and gear box, to have a plastic gear and then not to have a simple replacement part. Why one plastic gear? Maybe its some kind of means to protect the unit if there is an obstruction. If so, its dumb not to have the replacement...defeats the purpose of the plastic gear. If its like mine, the KMG K900 (Newmar part 78010) I think I would check with KMG (Klauber Machine and Gear) 314-533-5256 to see if they can get you a plastic gear. At least you will have an extra motor if you ever need one.

There was some problems with kitchen slides with refrigerators Newmar found they needed a different roller because of the added weight of fridge.
Newmar parts should be able to help.

Did cal them up and my motor does not have a gear replacement kit so the motor has to be replaced.....for aplastic part which is surely an engineering decision from their part but so costly (over $700 if I buy it myself, not my Repair person) + Customs + Taxes and a few bucks for the exchange + SHIPPING by Air !!!!

On my old Monaco, the bedroom slide used a Lippert motor and gear box that had a plastic gear that acted as a clutch. A tooth wore off and I had to replace the whole unit as they would not sell just the plastic gear.

So what happens when one of my Intellitec slideout controllers goes bad (again) and someone says "Hey dummy just apply 12 V to the motor wires and the slide will come in." Well maybe it's not such a hot idea. It could cost $1000 if I don't do it right, and the motor turns the wrong way and grinds that plastic gear. So does anybody know which motor wire gets the positive if the motor is to pull the slideout in?
Hmmm. Or...I could buy 8 spare controllers at $125 each, thats $1000 too. On the other hand I have a 50-50 chance the slide out will go in the right direction. Great. Now I will stay awake worrying about my slideout motors. Maybe a log cabin would be nice. No moving parts. Grizzly Adams and Abe Lincoln didn't have RV's and appear to have been fairly happy.

Hi Steve,
I've done the apply 12 VDC directly to the motor many times. Do not worry about making the connection the wrong way. I've also done that many times. The motor moves the slide so slowly, if connected incorrectly, you can quickly break the connection. Then reverse the wires and you are good to go. You will need to carefully watch how far you let the slide go in. There is no automatic stopping the slide when you are applying the voltage.

The last post I read when you applied 12v's to motor it was mentioned that if slide moves outward and you want to move it inward, reverse the two battery leads + & - will move slide inward.
The controller reveres the battery feed to motor to move slide inward or outward.
You are just doing it manually.
Read this PDF and go to Slide out trouble shooting section will explain if you had a controller problem how to get slide in.

FYI the kitchen slide-out motor as well as the lock sensors were repaired and all is well - brought unit back from Quebec City a few days ago - a few bucks poorer but a happy Camper, for now
