Hi fulltimereh,
Once a new Newmar is settled down they usually make a very good and reliable coach. There will be some immediate maintenance, depending on the maintenance records for the automotive and coach components that require it. As in any coach, consider inspecting for the big items. Look carefully at,
1. roof seams and inside the coach look for water stains
2. tires - check the date on the side of the tires and the tread. If the tires are between 7 to 10 years old, depending on sidewall cracking you may want to consider replacing them. Go to
Michelin Sidewall Cracking Chart - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery to view and print a Michelin chart for you to compare to your tire side walls.
3. batteries - if flooded, take a hydrometer reading on each cell. If AGM, non-flooded take a VDC reading across the battery bank(s). Fully charged they should read 12.6 VDC or higher.
4. As to the motor and tranny, consider having a certified technician check these items.
5. fill the fresh water tank. Leave the city water connected to the coach. Check for leaks. Disconnect the city water and run the water using the water pump. Work all the appliances as if you owned the coach. If an appliance runs on propane and electric, make sure it actually does work.
Good luck and post here as you move forward with any questions.
Sorry for the delay in replying. Sometimes real life takes over. If you buy, let me be the first to welcome you to the Newmar family.
