Mountain Aire V10 starter solenoid location

This is my first time posting. I hope I have this question in the right area.
I have a 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire v10
I have a charged battery no crank situation. On the starter, there appears to be a solenoid. I jump the terminal and the engine started. I believe I need to replace the solenoid. I’ve never owned a ford before. My friend says what I thought to be the solenoid, is not. That the solenoid is located on the firewall.
I hoping to find out...is that the solenoid that’s attached to the starter or is it truly located on the firewall
Thank you
Bill

Hi Bill - Follow that positive cable on the starter back and see if it connects directly to the battery or what is in line along the way. There is going to be some sort of solenoid (and it may be the one you photoed) as the key switch would not last long handling the high amperage the starter draws but what you show in your photo is still likely your issue.

Your both correct. The main starter solenoid is on the starter. However, there is also another starter solenoid on the radiator support in the passenger side wheel well.

If you jumped the solenoid on the starter and it started, I'd replace the entire starter. Its 20 years old, exposed to heat from the exhaust manifold, and chemicals and moister from the road that get kicked up.

Here are some photos and an article regarding the starter:

You could replace the old starter as a precaution, but it won't fix your no start problem.
Jumping it at the starter mounted solenoid prove a it still works.

You need to check the function of the solenoid up near the top of the engine to see if that's your problem. Find it and listen for it to click, when you turn the key to start.
If it clicks, it may be bad, If its silent, there is a good chance its something before it. Neutral safety, slide out, jacks down lockout or another type of safety lockout.

Troubleshoot then replace, rather then just change components.
