mysterious electrical bug

Hi All,

I have a '95 Kountry Aire gas unit on a Ford F53 chassis. Earlier this week, a most unusual electrical bug surfaced.

After exercising the engine I shut the ignition off. The dash electricals shut off, the accessories shut off, but the engine did not. Yes, everything shut off including the tach but the engine ran as normal. After some quick experimenting, I found a diode located in the engine bay fuse block, that when pulled shut off the engine.

I have two questions. What failed? What the heck is that diode for?

As usual, I have not been able to find a schematic for this unit.

Any Ideas?

I can't tell you for sure what the diode is either but it may have been a diode for the isolator relay

A diode is generally used to prevent electrical feed-back. In other words, it allows electrical flow in one direction only like a check valve. I have no idea what your problem may be, other than it is probably an electrical snafu. Good luck and please post a follow-up when you sort it out.

Did you check the diode? Does it show low resistance in one direction and almost infinite resistance in the other? If not, you may have found your problem.

You may be able to find chassis wiring diagrams at a auto supply store. Look for Ford 460 engine F-53 chassis.
