National Interstate to no longer write RV Insurance

For those currently with National Interstate RV insurance policies, you will receive a written proposal from Safeco Insurance Company approximately one month prior to your renewal.

I received my safeco quote, Iím happy with the price but it looks like an auto policy. I need to dig in and read it.

Some companies might issue a separate 'RV' policy, though it's likely un-different than your Auto policy - I believe Safeco, in most states, just adds your RV to your Auto Policy.

This also may be because some 'RV' insurance companies don't actually write or cover everyday AUTOs, you have to insure them separately.

and, no, I don't believe Safeco offers coverage for 'full timer' RV insurance, as they don't provide the personal LIABILITY that you need, nor additional 'personal contents' coverage for those items you may store somewhere else.

I don’t have a safeco auto insurance so this policy is separate. I’m concerned about items like awnings and satellite dishes, are they covered? I read in this forum somewhere there are policies that do not cover damage from flat tire/blow out.

Anyone have safeco? Have you read your policy?

Thx,
Steve

Hartford through AARP

I've got my coach and toad insured with Hartford through AARP. They cover full-timing but you have to obtain approval from an underwriter. The agent I was working with handled it all. Plus I got an extra rider from contents ($35k) which also covers the stuff I have in a storage unit. The price is right too!

I'm a Safeco agent, and policy holder... but not sure what your 'referring' to when you question what's covered, such as awnings and satellite dishes... An awning is part of the vehicle. Many satellite dishes are also part of the vehicle, installed at the factory itself just like the dash radio, the oven, and the fridge.

Most companies also provide 'additional contents' coverage for your clothes, personal items, etc., that would certainly include any other 'things' that you might be concerned about.

I don't know where you might have 'read somewhere' that tire blowouts/flats are not covered by an RV policy - really???? It's a vehicle, of course it is.

I'm not your agent, nor am I giving anyone specific advice about Safeco, or any insurance policy. I'm just amazed at how many folks 'read things' and are so quick to believe it, yet you ask someone if they've ever read their own insurance policy, and they are quick to 'roll their eyes' and make light of the notion.

Mister T you may want to communicate the insurance of awnings to Safeco. I requested all the way up the chain of command if my awnings were covered. I was advised no. So now I am really confused.

safeco does not offer RV insurance. it is an auto like coverage. I had them for a month or so. They may negotiate an agreed price for your coach for total loss replacement. Ofcourse, you would also pay based on that price (noticeably higher). I don't believe they also provide typical rv item overages (awnings, etc). They definitely do not offer full timing nor would they insure a unit used for full timing.

My best quote today was with National General, it is a rv policy that spells some things out much better than Safeco imo. It is a couple hundred more on a annual premium but so far I very much like what Iím reading.

So, your saying that if my RV has a tire blow out
or gets a flat that canít be repaired that Safeco will cover the cost of the tire replacement?

Our motorhome is titled in an LLC. Have not found one Insurance company that will write a policy in the name of our LLC. They will write a policy in our name, but not the LLC name that is on the vehicles registration. Any suggestions?
