Need help diagnosing slide problem
Help! Today when I tried to retract the curbside front slide there was a loud bang and it stopped. i looked under the slide and could not see anything amiss, so i hit the button again. The slide retracted but the motor never stopped and the locks never engaged. i had to hit the switch to get the motor to stop. Being a brave soul, i again hit the switch and the slide extended, but the motor would not stop running until I hit the switch again, The next time i hit the switch, the motor started but there was no slide movement until I physically put my shoulder into it to start it moving. It then retracted but again, did not lock and the motor stayed on until I hit the switch. I do not really know where to start, and can i drive it without the slide locked? The guy i bought it from said I must have sheared a pin, but i am not sue if there is one, and then how could it retract or extend at all?
It is a 2004/05 four slide Mountain Aire. The motor seems to be mounted tightly, but I will put a wrench to the bolts tomorrow. Thanks!

Not sure of the what your slide operating configurations are, but if this pertains to your configuration check the slide mechanism stop adjustments. Its a long piece of all thread rod with nuts on it that moves in and out with the slide, its attached to tubing arms that move/support the slide. I had the bracket weld break, at the tubing, on the tab that supports the all thread rod, which render the stops useless. The loud pop you heard may have been the weld breaking. If that all thread is not attached then nothing to stop the slide out so the motors see an over-current condition and shutdown. Worth a check.
Hope this helps.

Quick search of website finds many threads on slides and their issues..
Might want to read thru some of them

Follow up on what SPIKESTER said... With a flashlight, look down the threaded limit rod on your slide, see if there is a metal bracket hanging on the end of the rod... with evidence of a broken weld. Mine would stop when retracting BUT, NOT when extending. Had to use the switch to control extensions until I had it repaired. And yes, you can drive without the locks engaged...

Hi Anakalia,
My money is on what Spikester posted. It has happened to me.

If you get the slide in, measure how far it is between the wall and the slide frame then go to Home Depot and have them cut two 2x4s a quarter inch longer than the measurements and jam them between the wall and the slide frame just above the floor so they cannot fall out, front and rear, to hold the slide in. It should make it safe to drive until you can fix it. Of course, monitor it closely when you start driving to make sure the braces do not move. It may not be the best solution, but it should work.

Is the slide a kitchen slide?
You will find all slide info in this link for different slide systems it come from this sticky.
A kitchen slide has four shoulder bolts on its pan and if lose will cause you all types of problems.

Thanks. Since the motor doesn’t stop on either end of travel, it makes me wonder.
I will have to extend the slide and check the rods.

Not a kitchen slide, but a large slide across from it. One motor, two cogwheels.

Maybe you have something like this PROXIMITY SWITCH.
The stop rods should be OK when slide hits the wall out going or incoming the rise in current from motor operates the control to shut off motor current, may want to look at pot on control maybe turned up to far, turn it back and adjust in small increments until slide operates correctly.

Slide still a problem
So Newmar told me to unplug the controller and reattach it to power to reset it. But, nothing changed. The motor still runs at both ends of travel in/out until I hit the switch again. The locks do not engage when the slide is retracted. I am wondering if there is a sensor that is bad? Everything beneath looks normal. The threaded rod is ok, brackets ok, motor bolts tight. Could there be a clutch problem? About every third time I start it the motor runs but the slide doesn't start moving in.. I turn it off and then on again and it moves, but the locks still do not engage when it is retracted.

What type controller do you have, the C controller is no longer use by Newmar because of their problems with it.
Directions for reset is in link I gave you.
A poor ground on that controller was a problem and they said to run a separate ground wire from negative battery post to correct it.
The problem is motor will not shut off because controller is not sensing the rise in current when motor has open slide or closed against your wall opening, the rise in current draw by motor tells controller to shut off battery to motor.

Controller for slide
My controller is an Intellitec 00-00719-100. Forgive me for not being sure if that qualifies as Class C. I am told they are no longer made, but the replacement if needed is a 00-00719-200 which lacks the voice function. Does that sound right?
I looked through the QT’s and MODS, but am not finding the exact steps to adjust it. I will keep looking. I am wondering if I could help diagnose it by swapping the two controllers in that bay. The rear bedrooms slide is not ramped and is smaller, so maybe that would not help me at all.
Is there only one pot to adjust on each one?
I have another dumb question: If my house batteries are old, but i am plugged into 50Amp service, should that eliminate a low voltage cause of my problem? I need to replace my house batteries, but was going to wait a few months till I am going to use it.
Thanks again.
