Netflix Screen Mirroring w/Downloaded Videos & w/o Internet Access

I’m trying to watch downloaded Netflix movies on my TV, but I can’t get it to work when I don’t have Internet access via the WiFi network.

I have configured the TVs and mobile devices to be connected to the MH WiFi network. When the WiFi network is connected to a CG WiFi network all is fine. I can launch Netflix, go to the Download movies list to play a movie and then select the screen mirror icon to watch it on the Sony Bravia TV.

When the WiFi Ranger isn’t connected to the Internet, when I try to play a download video the Netflix app complains that it cannot connect to the Internet and it won’t play the movie. If I turn the WiFi off on the mobile device, I can play the movie on the device, but I cannot screen mirror it because I’m not connected to the WiFi network.

So if I have WiFi turned off on the mobile device I can watch the movie the device, but cannot watch it on the TV. If I turn on WiFi, I can screen mirror to the TV, but the Netflix app will only play the movie if there is Internet access via the WiFi network which at many CGs we don’t have.

I’ve also tried playing video on the TV using the ChromeCast, but things don’t work without internet connectivity.

Has anyone else run into this issue? What workaround have you come up with?

We bought an adapter for our iPhones and iPad that converts the lightning port to HDMI. Connect to the TV with an HDMI cable and anything on the device screen is on the TV. It's not a wireless solution but it works.

We download on our laptop and watch via HDMI cable. Not as sexy as connecting via wifi or bluetooth but it works and my wireless mouse allows me to control the video and lap top from the sofa. I'm gonna buy an HDMI cable for the bed room too so we can do the same in bed if we choose.

I download to a Windows laptop and connect to the TV with an HDMI cable and also control it with a wireless mouse.

However, I often get the message "Oops! Something went wrong" with the error message U7121-3200. According to Netflix, the only fix is to download the program again, which of course, requires WiFi. Frustrating.

Your TVs are unable to authenticate to Netflix's servers unless they are on a WiFi since they do not have their own cell service like your phone does. Or, if you downloaded on a WiFi only tablet, when downloading to the tablet Netflix authenticated that device. Due to copywrite Netflix must authenticate all streams and downloads. Netflix downloads expire, and you can only download the same show/movie x number of times in a 12 month period.

Well ... given the feedback, I have ordered a lightning to HDMI. I’ll use this as an interim capability until I can find a way to get this to work wirelessly.

Thanks for the responses.

I've downloaded movies from Netflix onto my phone. Can I connect my TV with a Chromecast and my phone to a network I set up in my trailer and cast the movies to the TV without an internet connection?

Right now I set up a hotspot on my phone and connect to the TV thru it but it needs an internet connection to work. Not a problem unless I have poor or no data connection and then it won't work or buffers frequently if the signal is bad.

I have apple devices (iPhone or iPad) and use Apple TV. No internet connection required.

Can you stream downloaded Netflix content to the AppleTV / TV without an internet connection?

I did some reading on some techie forums and it appears that Netflix made updates to their app around a year ago that restricts downloaded content from being output via AirPlay if there is no internet connection.

No. When you use your phone as a remote for the Chromecast it is just that...a remote. Chromecast still needs the Internet in order to grab the video stream. And it is not streaming the downloaded content. Chromecast will cast a Chrome Browser tab, but then you are using your phones internet connection and data to stream the netflix content and still not using the downloaded video.

You will need to get some kind of connection switch (USB to HDMI) in order to display the downloaded video from your phone/tablet to the TV.

Netflix does this intentionally to prevent you from easily downloading content to a non-mobile device (laptop/desktop). This is to keep nefarious people from capturing the videos and keeping it outside their TOS. Real nefarious people can do this regardless, but this greatly reduces the amount of people who can do this or will go through the trouble.

If your phone supports Miracast you can use it to mirror your phone's screen to the TV. Most Samsung phones support this and you can cast to a Roku or many smart TVs. Miracast isn't as reliable a casting method as Chromecasting but it's better than not being able to do it at all!

Not to be negative, but it is impossible to stream Netflix or anything else without an internet connection, watch stuff from your phone/computer believable, but Apple TV need to be connected to the internet in order to stream content.

Netflix Screen Mirroring w/Downloaded Videos & w/o Internet Access

I have about 20 TV apps downloaded on my phone and can stream live content from the phone to the Apple TV. ESPN, news channels etc. But it doesn’t work for Netflix or Prime Video.

My only solution was the Apple HDMI adapter and you don’t need wi fi.

I found this one at AliExpress. It has a 6’ cable and costs under $10. It will arrive in a week or two. Plenty of time to verify there’s no issue before we hit the road.
