New E-Plex question
Looking at buying 2007 Essex but now I’m aware of the eplex problems and the potential cost of repair. Is it a definite failure or just a handful of failures?
Also I know the mountain Airs don’t have it till 2014 but does an 06 Essex have it. I’m looking for older coach but that eplex situation scare the crap out of me.
Thanks in advance

The 2006 Essex definitely has it as do the King Aires until 2011. The mtn aires never had it.
The mtn airs of similar vintage could be fine for you. Compare the features and pick the coach that has been well maintained and nicely used.

E-plex is the main reason that I avoided the Essex. The ‘07-08 MADP has the same power train and chassis and share at least a few floor plans. The ISM in my coach has been upgraded to 500hp, it is simply a software flash.

If there is something about the Essex that you really like, have a look at 2005. Nearly the same as an 06/07 but no Eplex. Minor cosmetic changes on the outside but they are all quite similar. Spartan K2 chassis on all. Download the brochures for each year at the Newmar site.
You'll probably have to upgrade the TVs and the A/C units in all those years (around $4000) but you aren't going to want to tour the U.S with 10 year old A/C units.

Our 04 Essex didn't have E-Plex system which is a good thing. Our 18 London Aire has Silver Leaf and that's a good thing.

Is eplex and multiplex the same thing?
Tiffin talks a lot about the benefits of their multiplex. Is this a good system and does Newmar use it?

E-plex is a trademark for a particular multiplexed system. The e-plex that is often mentioned is a 10 year old system that is beginning to have age related issues. The current multiplex system in a Newmar is a SilverLeaf system.

Silverleaf replaced E-Plex around 2012 for the Essex and King Aire. I don't know when it was added to the MA.

I can't add any additional to the above. Can't comment on what Tiffin uses (I just don't know) ...,. you might ask in the Tiffin forum.

Or you can read all about the newer penguin AC horror stories and roll the dice. My 3 units are 13 years old and still working. Normally, I would replace them, but the new Dometic Penguins are not inspiring confidence.
