Hello, we are planning to pick up our "new to us" 2008 Kountry Star 3916 tomorrow. We will be picking it up at Midtown RV in Penticton B.C. 50 miles south of our home in Kelowna. It is like new with only 9,000 miles. We have a scheduled afternoon tour with the RV Tech followed by a couple of overnight stays in their RV camping area. They do this to enhance the new ownership experience and resolve an problems or confusions with the coach. I have read most PDI sheets that are on the forum and we have looked to be sure all recalls from Newmar have been completed. I have noted that a new fix has been provided for the windshield wipers. I found the ride a little harsh with the Bilsteins and as it is still under warranty with Spartan I plan to discuss Koni shock replacement.
I do have a couple of questions.
Any comments on the proper use of the dishwasher? How many gallons of water does it use with each wash?
What kind and length of ladder would you recommend to carry in the cargo bay?
Any comments on specfic items to be aware of in the KSDP.
We are happy to have finally made the move to Newmar.

Thanks

Jim & Carolyn

Hi Jim & Carolyn,
Welcome to the Newmar owners' family. As a KSDP owner myself, I compliment you on you're good taste.

All I can help you with is the ladder question. I have a 7' ladder. Go to A-Frame Double Sided Ladders - Product - Camping World to read about the ladder I have.

Look into the Newmar Kountry Klub. There is an NKK sub forum off of this forum. Also go to Welcome to Newmar Kountry Klub to read about the Klub. If you have any Klub questions, post here of PM me.

Many happy miles.

Welcome Jim & Carolyn to the Newmar forum & irv2.
Congrats on your KSDP many happy and safe miles for you.
The dishwasher or a washer dryer if you have one should be only used with full hookup. If you over fill holding tank will flood your bathroom floor which has been done without both items. Shut off water supply when leaving MH in case a faucet was left to trickle also by the time you return could also have flood.
Have not seen any problems posted on dishwasher that I can recall.
Enjoy the forum and do post often.

Welcome Jim and Carolyn. You'll love your Newmar. Tell us what you had before or if this is the first RV for you. I encourage you to join the NKK. It's a great group and a fun way to see the country and meet other Newmar owners.

I hang my ladder on the rear ladder! Save the compartment space you'll probably need it!

Hi Jim & Carolyn,
I do not have a dishwasher. Maybe the best source of how much water it uses is to see if you have the documentation that came with the coach/appliance. Also consider calling Newmar service at 1-800-731-8300.

Our Dishwasher (fisher paykel) uses 4 gallons of water. Our Maytag washing machine (stackable) uses 16 gallons of water.

Your harshness of ride may also be attributable to tire pressures. I have an '07 KSDP, and when new the tire pressures were at max. This made for a bone jarring ride for sure, also the ride hieghts hadn't been set which contributed.

When you get your coach, pack it ready for travel and I mean everything including filling the tanks. Take it and get it wieghed, this will allow you to go to the tire manufacturers website and find the proper inflation pressure for your wieght both front and rear. This is also an opportune time to have the ride hieghts on front and rear checked.

The hieght is adjusted for an empty coach at the manufacturer and they suggest having it set by the dealer after purchase and "your" normal loading. Some dealers do this and some let you figure it out for yourself. Cummins South told me about this on my first trip there for a warranty issue. Here in North Georgia Cummins South handles most warranty work for Newmar since there isn't a dealer in the northern part of the state.

Welcome to the Forum, DocJim, from eastern Canada

With my 98 Gulfstream Tour Master, I did use the telescopic ladder that was previously recommended since I had no ladder - With the 2006 DSDP, there is a good rear ladder so I discarded the other ladder but still carry a 7 foot, sturdy and safe ladder in my compartment, for servicing and cleaning the Coach. There are so many models but it has to be safe This model cannot be attached to the Coach's rear ladder.

Hope you enjoy your Newmar as we do and join the Club (NKK) - I joined last week

Thanks for your comments. We spent several hours with the RV tech yesterday and had a very pleasurable night at their camp site along with several other Newmar owners getting last minute service prior to heading south for the winter. Today the tech spent another hour on some last minute details in addition to hooking up our Sat. receiver. I cannot thank Midtown RV enough for their thoroughness in getting us and our coach ready for travel. The adventure has begun.

Welcome to Newmar and KKK. I look forward to meeting you at an event someday.
I also have a 2008 KSDP 3916. We love ours. As for the ladder I use a collapsable ladder purchased at Camping World. I then purchased a PVC fence post from Lowes. The post is on the storage deck and the ladder slides in. Using the fence post allows you to place items on top of the ladder but you can access the ladder without removing anything else. Good luck and let us know how much you like the new coach.
