New Toad

When I bought my 06 Essex I bought my 06 Hummer H2, the Hummer remains. I am thinking about a replacement, and am asking for advice. I like the H2 because it has room for my 3 Border Collies, and is easy to tow four wheels down (push a button on the dash). Is there something on the market that is equally roomy, and easy to operate?

A friend of mine just bought a Jeep Overland and really likes how easy it is to operate.

Jeep Grand Cherokee is also good choice. Nice styling, one button push to tow, and a fair bit of room without alot of weight. We have a 2016 GC Summit which we love. Bought it on the advice of some smart people on the forum.

The 4 wheel drive GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe with 2 speed active transfer case are similar in size to the H2 and identical in operation to switch the transfer case to Neutral.
Many of the 4 WD Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos in various trim levels are easily switched to toad mode, but are somewhat smaller.
None of the above vehicles correctly optioned have towing speed limitations or require the disconnection of battery or pulling fuses.

We really like our 2015 Grand Cherokee - Summit. It's comfortable to drive around town, has some nice tech features, and one-button switch to tow mode.

Many thanks for the tips. DW will check them out, as she did with the H2.

Again, thanks! I posted on this site as well as the Winnebago site, and this one had 256 views and 5 responses, while the other had 91 views and zero responses. Just another reason I stay active on this site. Much appreciated!

MotorHome magazine just published their 2017 Guide to Dinghy Towing (www.motorhome.com). The list of new towable vehicles gets shorter and shorter every year. Note that most all vehicles with electric power steering (Tahoes, Yukons, Silverados, Sierras, etc) require the negative battery cable be disconnected to prevent damage.

We really like the Jeep Cherokee (different from the Grand Cherokee) and the Chevy Equinox. Both are towable 4-down.

There have been many reports of trouble flat-towing the 4 cyl Chevy Equinox (including ours.) I have not seen any problems reported with the 6 cyl. Apparently the difference is that the 4 cyl has electronic steering and the 6 cyl has hydraulic.
